William “Bill” K. Patey of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the age of 82 years. Bill, otherwise known as ‘Big Bird’, will always be remembered for his many kindnesses and the generosity he showed towards others. He was the helping hand that many seniors appreciated and will never forget. Bill be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his beloved wife of 56 years, Barbara; and his two daughters, Lesley (Sean) Murphy of Spruce Grove; and Lisa (Craig) Hanson of Sylvan Lake. Robert Joseph Albert ‘Bob’ Lapointe of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Long Term Care on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the age of 92 years. Bob will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 62 years, Annette; and his eight children: Vivian (Cliff) Longman of Rimbey; Janet Klasson of Edmonton; Daniel (Jacqueline) Lapointe of Sylvan Lake; Renee Lapointe (Mike) of Tallahassee, Florida; Suzanne Hayes of Strathmore; Richard Lapointe (Tracy) of Czar, Alberta; Patrick Lapointe of Rimbey; and Nicole (Calvin) Sayer also of Czar. Helen Dorothy Jarmoluk of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Area Two on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the age of 92 years. Helen was born in Elk Point, Alberta on August 30, 1925. She was the youngest of ten children born to Marinus and Rundena (Dina) Jepson. Helen finished school in Elk Point, sometimes having to walk three km in the winter when it was too cold for the horses. After graduating, she moved to Vancouver, B.C. and worked in pharmacy retail. At one point, Helen came to visit her sister, Mickey who owned the Rexall Drug Store in Rimbey. While there, she attended a square dance and met her future husband, Michael. They were united in marriage on December 26, 1953 in Calgary, and made their home in Rimbey for the next 64 years. Helen held strong to her faith, and was active in the Catholic Church and the C.W.L. She was also active elsewhere in the community; participating in the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, various plays, events, golfing, cross-country skiing, and many other social activities. Helen also enjoyed traveling to B.C., Hawaii, Mexico, and South Africa, and especially enjoyed the many summers at Gull Lake. Her biggest joy was all of her family and the time spent together. She was well-cared-for in her last few years in the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre. “Helen will lovingly be remembered for her quiet-natured and caring manner, and her humour, which she carried to the end.” Helen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her beloved husband of 64 years, Michael; and her three children: her son, Patrick (Leona) Jarmoluk; and her two daughters, Loretta (Fred) Zouboules; and Teresa (Shannon) Moench, all of Red Deer; her six cherished grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives, and several dear friends. Naomi Rose Regnier of Alder Flats, Alberta passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at the age of 75 years. Naomi was born on August 1, 1942 in Toronto, Ontario to Elliot and Laura Land, the third eldest of eight siblings. When she was three, the family loaded up the children in the back of the old truck and headed west to the Halkirk area farm. Naomi took her first employment in Lake Louise working at the Post Hotel, which is where she met the love of her life, Richard Regnier. They were united in marriage on April 26, 1963. Naomi and Richard moved around quite a bit working in Jasper, the Ya Ha Tinda Ranch, the Yukon, Alix, Caroline, and then finally settling in Alder Flats. Shawn joined their family in 1969, and the family was complete. Naomi was the most amazing cook…she was ‘the kitchen magician’! When she and Richard owned the Boundary Store, people from all over would come for her fresh-baked bread and cinnamon buns. Naomi loved and took great pride in her family, as they were her greatest joy. When her grandson, Brayden was born, he quickly became the light of her life. Naomi welcomed many children into her heart and they loved her as a ‘special grandma’. Her siblings and in-laws, as well as their children, were all very dear to her heart. Naomi was a hard-working woman who gave her all in everything she did in life. She always put other’s needs before her own, and would do everything in her power to make things better for them. She truly had a heart of gold. Naomi will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her beloved husband of 55 years, Richard; her son, Shawn (Elaine); and her precious grandson, Brayden. David ‘Dave’ R. Smith of Falun, Alberta passed away peacefully with his wife, Marie by his side at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre ~ Area Two on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the age of 81 years. Dave loved being in ‘the bush’, and greatly enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. He possessed a passion for restoring Model Ts and John Deere’s, and was an avid collector. Dave will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife, Marie; and three stepsons: Danny Ferguson, Lawrence Ferguson, and Tim (Ginger) Ferguson; as well as two special granddaughters, Holly and Jamie. Jase was born in Red Deer and worked for 40 plus years as a Partsman at Northwest Motors. He was united in marriage to Jean Minue in 1957. A source of immense pride for Jase was building a backyard swimming pool in 1975, which was enjoyed by family and friends. Jase will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his son, Bob (Colleen); and his cherished grandsons: Robert (Sabrina), Chad (Madison), Lorry (Louise), and Lane (Tina); as well as seven great grandchildren. With saddened hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Gordon Raymond Skeels of Bentley, Alberta. Gordon was born on March 29, 1951 in Rimbey, Alberta. He was the eldest of five children born to Raymond and Rose Skeels. Gordon passed away at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the age of 67 years. Gordon was a dear husband and best friend to his loving wife, Alexis for over 46 years; and a wonderful father and cherished grandpa to his son, Robert (Tracy) Skeels of Pierceland, Saskatchewan and their children: Brooke, Willow, and Hunter. Annis Bovbjerg of Winfield, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the age of 72 years. Annis was born in Lacombe and spent most of her adult life living in Red Deer. She moved to Winfield in 1993 to be with her best friend and companion, Doug Hall. Annis was a kind and thoughtful woman, always with a quick smile and a great sense of humour. She was an avid reader, loved to knit, and was an excellent seamstress. For many years, Annis also enjoyed playing golf and curling. She was a very good cook, and together with Doug they would often have friends over for an amazing meal, followed by a glass or two of wine and great fellowship. Annis also loved to travel, mostly to warm places. One of her most memorable trips was to England to visit a pen-pal she had been corresponding with since high school, but had never met. Annis will be missed by her friends and acquaintances, many of which she met during her 18 years working at Smith Hardware, and she will always be remembered by her cherished friends at Wine Wednesdays. Hannah Marie Matson of Red Deer, Alberta, formerly of Bluffton, Alberta, passed away at Bethany CollegeSide, Red Deer on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the age of 90 years, following a short struggle with liver failure. Hannah was born to Cornelius and Sarah Neufeld in Swalwell, Alberta on April 15, 1927. She was one of eight siblings, and was raised on a farm in the Didsbury area. Managing a farming household came early for Hannah, as her own mother died when Hannah was 15 years old. Her mother’s kitchen became hers until, in 1949 at the age of 22 years, she married Alfred Matson of the Iola District. Hannah and Alfred farmed together in Iola until 1973. They then bought an empty church in Bluffton, and after remodelling it, established and operated “Whispering Hope”, a home for handicapped children. Hannah and Alfred shared their home and their lives; loving, caring, and helping 52 children with special needs over their 25 years of service. In 1993 they retired, and in 2003 they moved to Red Deer to be closer to family. They spent a couple of years at an assisted living facility in Ponoka before failing health brought them to settle into the Bethany Care facility. Hannah will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her loving children: Dennis (Rachel) Matson of Boyle, Alberta; Doris (Art) Fleming of Wallace, Idaho; Wayne (Elizabeth) Matson of Bracebridge, Ontario; Cindy (Bob) McColm of Lloydminster; Myron Matson of Red Deer; Collette Miller of Edmonton; and Jenine Matson of Red Deer; as well as nineteen cherished grandchildren, and thirty-three great grandchildren. Stanley Frank Dubielew, a.k.a. “Pops”, of Rimbey, Alberta passed away at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, Edmonton on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the young age of 82 years, following complications from heart surgery. Stan was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan on December 29, 1934, the only child to Frank and Otolja Dubielew. As a young man, he took over the family farm in Major, Saskatchewan were her met and married Natalie Mech. Together they had five children, and in 1971 Stan got the fever to move west, choosing Rimbey, Alberta. He enjoyed gardening, singing, playing cards, bingo, and just being with his family. Sporting one of his many cowboy hats, Pops could be seen cruising down main street in his scooter, heading to the Co-op. He looked forward to his Thursday coffee time with his boys. Until his passing, Stan resided at the Kansas Ridge One Apartments. Stan is survived by the mother of their children, Natalie Dubielew of Rimbey; and their five loving children: Lanny (Denise) of Bluffton; Ken (Della) of Big Lake, B.C.; Perry (Brenda) of Hoadley; Tish from Sylvan Lake; and Marc (Terri) of Bluffton. Pops was very proud of his seventeen grandchildren and his eight great grandchildren, with the 9th addition on the way. G. Bruce Anderson of Rimbey, Alberta passed away suddenly, but peacefully, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the age of 65 years, following an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Bruce was born on July 20, 1952 to Forbes and Mary Anderson in Bowness, Alberta. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Sharon. From a young age, Bruce’s parents instilled a love of nature in him that lasted his whole life. He held a deep passion for the outdoors; and loved camping, hunting, and fishing. Bruce also enjoyed being kept busy in the community, and could be found volunteering for the Fish and Game Association, and was past president of the Blindman Valley Rod and Gun Club for many years. Bruce also loved woodworking and was a fine cabinet maker. Several homes display his excellent workmanship. His talents also led to volunteering for the Leslieville Antique Club, where he helped repair and refinish the Leslieville Mercantile. Every year for 16 years, Bruce and Sharon would attend the annual Garlic Festival in B.C., and then venture to Radium Hot Springs for the car show that was held there every fall. These were events that they looked forward to each year. Bruce possessed diverse interests in many areas, and held exceptional talent at any task he took on. He was also Sharon’s ‘rock’ this past summer while she was in the hospital. Bruce will be fondly remembered for his dry humour and gentleness. His memory will be forever cherished by Sharon, and he will be greatly missed by many. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Forbes Willie. Gerald "Jerry" H. Albach of Rimbey, Alberta passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Area Two on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the age of 80 years. The eldest of eight children to Henry and Lily Albach, Jerry was born at home on the farm near Parkside, Saskatchewan. After receiving his High School Diploma, he heard the calling of Alberta to join the work force in the oilfield. Very quickly he gained employment with Pembina Pipeline in Buck Creek where he lived in the Pembina bachelor quarters. It was at the curling rink in Buck Creek where he first set eyes on a young woman named Priscilla Doyle. (Jerry's version of the story was that she was "hanging off the bumper" and wanting to go for a ride in his new and shiny, red and white 1957 Dodge car). We all know how he liked to tell stories! A year later they were married on December 23, 1958 in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan. Together they moved into the small mobile with Jerry’s roommate in Drayton Valley. Being newlyweds, they decided that they needed their own space so he purchased a skid shack (Newlywed Chalet) for $2K. Greg was born in October, 1959, Jody in October, 1961, Terry in May, 1963, and Shauna in June of 1967. During those years, December of 1962, Jerry and Priscilla purchased the farm west of Rimbey where he worked, starting up a business in the ‘70s called Albach Contractors. He had graders and steam trucks working on Alberta highways and oil leases. There was also a new house built, the farming with his cattle and crops, and all sorts of hobbies. One being the trout ponds; the most beautiful place to be at the farm. Jerry, Terry, and Greg, along with the help of others, created a peaceful place where family and friends could gather and camp…and fish. His grandest “hobby” was the dream of building a log cabin with a view of the ponds, which turned into a beautiful log house. Many years of hard work, much of it by Terry, resulted in the home Jerry had dreamed of. Just a few days before moving in, the log house tragically started on fire and was gone by the next morning. This was heartbreaking to the whole family, but especially Jerry and Terry, and we feel that this was the beginning of the downturn in Jerry's health. He resided at the farm for a couple of more years until moving into Rimbey Continuing Care in June of 2015, diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The family cannot express enough how incredibly wonderful the caring staff there were to him, and he was well-liked...even with some of the inventive and colourful words he was so well-known for. He did keep his humour until the end, and had a laugh that will not be forgotten easily. Jerry and Priscilla created a family full of humour, sometimes a strange humour, but one that keeps us all connected and laughing. Jerry and Priscilla loved going to country dances in all the little community halls around their area; he was an excellent dancer and loved old-time music. He was also a very musical man, playing the guitar, accordion, piano, and had many different keys of harmonicas…we also can’t forget how he played the spoons or sang along in his deep baritone voice. Jerry played hockey starting at the age of 12, and coached for both Greg and Terry's teams. While playing on the Winfield Voyageurs Old Timers hockey team, they travelled to the Maritime Provinces in 1977 and 1978 for tournaments. Playing a game or two of crib was also something that he enjoyed. He loved the hunting season and it was his favourite time of the year. On one of the hunting trips, in a camping tent with Greg, Terry, and Joe (his youngest brother-in-law), his extreme snoring called in a moose and had it reply! His final hunting trips were with his grandson-in-law, Alex Graham who took Jerry out for 13 days of hunting in 2014. Sadly, it was to be his last season of adventure, but he still spoke fondly in remembering many of his trips. Jerry worked hard, but played hard. Anyone who knew him knows that he said what he meant and didn't pussyfoot around. He was a strong and rugged man that didn't have anything handed to him; he was an extremely hard worker. Even though Jerry had difficulty expressing it, he was so proud of his wife, kids, and grandkids, and later in life he did tell them. Family meant everything to him. He had an amazing knack with the little ones. Under the rough exterior he had a very gentle way, quieting even the unruliest of little ones. Jerry will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his nurturing wife of almost 59 years, Priscilla; his four loving children: Greg (Cathy) Albach of Rimbey, Jody Albach (Don McAra) of Edmonton, Terry (Tami) Albach of Rimbey, and Shauna Shields also of Rimbey; as well as his twelve cherished grandchildren: Karesa (Alex) Graham, Christie (Mac) Koselek, Emily Albach, Leah Strom, Kayla Strom, Alex Albach, Brittany (Tony) Rondeel, Alannah Albach (fiancée, Colten Bancroft), Jordan Bartsch, Tasha Bartsch, Hunter Shields, and Hayden Shields; and seven special great grandchildren: Owen, Anna, Karson, Allison, Hailey, Grayson, and Lincoln. Marilyn Evans of Rimbey, Alberta passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Thursday, September 14, 2017 with her children, Leanne, Curtis and his wife, Sonja, and her granddaughter, Jessica at her side. Born to Tom and Alice Woolley on April 25, 1943 in Lamont, Alberta, Marilyn was the third of six children (Evelyn, Betty, Leonard, George, Albert). Her family, which includes the spouses of her brothers and sisters, have always been very close, sharing holidays and family gatherings. Marilyn grew up in the town of Andrew, Alberta and spent much time at her grandmother’s house across the street. This was to prove influential in the years she spent with her special little people, her great grandchildren, Rosie and Ada. Marilyn trained as a registered nurse at the General Hospital in Edmonton from 1960 to 1964, and she formed some friendships that lasted into her final days. Before she completed nursing school, Marilyn travelled to Rocky Mountain House to visit her sister who worked at the Forestry office, where she was introduced to Arthur Evans, a forester. The introduction lead to a marriage of 36 years and two children before Art’s passing in 2001. While being a long-serving member of the community in Rocky Mountain House, and the province-wide community that was the Forest Service, the family was moved to the Crowsnest Pass in 1981 and Marilyn adapted to a new community until Art retired from the Forest Service in 1995. There was a new adventure in retirement waiting with an orchard in Creston, B.C., but after Art died in 2001, Marilyn moved back to the Crowsnest Pass, then Edmonton, and lastly to Rimbey to be closer to her family, especially her granddaughter and great granddaughters. Marilyn had an inner peace that was admirable. She enjoyed simple things: a good hug, a heartfelt chat, a clean house, or a compelling book. She shared her peaceful nature with people that she knew, and she often was the last to leave family gatherings or community events despite rarely touching anything stronger than tea. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and many cherished friends. Rod Palm passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017 at his home west of Rimbey, following a sudden heart attack. His wife, Mary, was at his side. Born to Ruth and Leo Palm on July 11, 1962, Rod was the seventh of nine children. He grew up on their farm west of Forshee, where the seeds of his character were sown: steadfast work ethic, generosity of spirit, reverence for nature, and love of learning. A lifelong appreciation for music, and the first sparks of his competitive spirit could also be attributed to this big, boisterous family. Athleticism and drive carried him to the University of Calgary, where he competed as a member of the Thunderbolts track club, and completed a bachelor's degree in Physical Education. "Rod the Runner." From Canadian Cross Country Nationals, to "I Love Rimbey Road Races", "Rubber Boot Opens", international competitions, and Jasper-Banff relays, he chased personal bests and championship titles in good company. The grit and sportsmanship that he showed on the track were reflected in every aspect of his life. Through marriage, carpentry, fatherhood, coaching, farming, management, and horsemanship, he strove for excellence with discipline, practice, honor, and humor. He never stopped working - on the farm, his business, relationships, or himself. Some of that work was visible, and well-known. A lot of it was quiet, gentle, and softly spoken. Alongside success and a wealth of happiness, Rod knew immense grief. With strength, vulnerability, and humility, he navigated the loss of his son, Eli; his brother, Gord Palm; his sister, Lois Johns (nee Palm); brother-in-law, Neil White; mother-in-law, Marilyn Negropontes (nee Christensen); and father-in-law, Chris Dann. Rod's legacy lives in the places and people he touched. His wife, Mary, daughters, Emma (Jon Weller) and Annika (Adam Greenwood), his parents, Ruth and Leo Palm, siblings: Jocelyn, Barbara, Kathy, Frank, Norman, Don, and in-laws, share his loss with cherished friends, extended family, colleagues, apprentices, teammates, and neighbors. James “Jim” W. Brewster of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Acute Care on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the age of 85 years. Jim was born on August 30, 1931 in Calgary, Alberta, the oldest in the family of four. He grew up in Banff, was a true cowboy, skier, and all-around athlete. Jim’s work included: horse wrangler, hunting guide, worked for Brewster Transport as a driver, and later as management. He met the love of his life, Alma, and they were married in 1955. They spent the next 23 years in the Banff/Jasper area. Jim and Alma were partners in the Brewster Guest Ranch at Seebe, Alberta. They then moved from there to a farm in Hoadley where Jim raised cattle and farmed while working for Alberta Transportation. When Jim and Alma retired, they spent a short time in Canmore and then returned to Rimbey. Jim loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his many friends. Jim will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his children: Kate Lee (Gerry Winters) of Rimbey; Trish Brewster of Jasper; and John (Tammy) Brewster of Rimbey; as well as his seven cherished grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Alfred Hoch of Westerose, Alberta passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the age of 82 years. Alfred was born on October 15, 1934 in Barbarówka, Poland to Helen Oëlke and Andreas Hoch. He and his mother immigrated to Canada in 1951 when Alfred was sixteen years old. They stayed with friends in Alberta, finally settling in Wetaskiwin. Alfred met Shirley Boden of Crystal Springs, Alberta and they were married on September 6, 1958. The Hoch family grew with the arrival of Karen in 1959, and Lorne in 1963. Alfred began a career as a plasterer and concrete finisher in the Wetaskiwin area and had a hand in finishing numerous houses, churches, and other prominent buildings across Alberta. He purchased land in Yeoford in 1961 and started building his farm. The family moved from Wetaskiwin to Yeoford in 1964, where Alfred began his second career as a farmer. He raised cattle and pigs, and eventually sheep and chickens. After retiring from farming, Alfred missed having animals, so the pastures were rented and he would spend the summers hauling salt and checking on the visiting cattle. Eventually Alfred purchased some horses and began breeding the mares. He enjoyed seeing the spring foals playing in the grass and running across the hills. Alfred was always willing to help out his neighbors with haying and other chores. He could usually be found at the Yeoford store or the restaurant in Breton, telling stories with friends and neighbors over coffee or pizza. One of his favorite pastimes was going to auctions sales, since he never knew what treasures he might find. Alfred enjoyed traveling across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan to visit his family and would often take Shirley on spontaneous road trips with Rocky Mountain House, Nordegg, and Jasper being some of his favorite destinations. Alfred is remembered with love by his wife of 58 years, Shirley; his daughter, Karen (Bruce) Viney of Olds; his son, Lorne (Patti) Hoch of Dawson Creek, B.C.; five grandchildren: Tanya (Fred) Godfrey of Elk Point, Alberta; Nicole (Mike) Fischer of Calgary; Jennifer Viney of Livelong, Saskatchewan; and Cody Hoch and David Hoch, both of Dawson Creek, B.C.; as well as three great grandchildren: Brayden Viney, James Fischer, and Paige Fischer; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. It is with the heaviest of hearts that our family announces the passing of Joseph Raymond “Ray” Durette. Ray passed away with his family by his side at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the age of 51 years, after a very short and aggressive, but courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Ray was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick to Maurice and Kathleen Durette. He lived in Calgary most of his life and began a career as a roofer. Ray moved to Red Deer with his wife several years ago and worked renovating with his dad. For the past seven years, he worked building trailers at QA Structures with a wonderful group of people. Ray was a very passionate musician and had mastered many instruments, but his love and incredible talent was in playing electric and acoustic guitar. He loved jamming with his dad the most. Ray had a big heart and was always there to help anyone. His kindness and generosity showed in everything he did. Ray’s love of rescuing pets and caring for them was very inspiring. Family meant everything to him, and Ray spent many hours enjoying all of his grandchildren and getting together with family and friends. He loved football and watching his favourite team, the Calgary Stampeders, while enjoying his Tim Hortons coffee. Charlotte was born on October 6, 1941 in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta to Dan and Helen Brockman. She grew up in Rocky Mountain House where she obtained her schooling, moving to Calgary as a young adult where she trained as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Charlotte worked for many years at Michener Centre in Red Deer, and later on she also looked after many individual clients. Charlotte will be forever remembered and sadly missed by her loving children: three sons, Lance (Glenda) Wotherspoon of Crossfield; Derek (LaVerna) Flug of Parksville, B.C.; and Curtis (CoraLee) Flug of Burleson, Texas; and one daughter, Christine (Jeff) Malloy of Fort McMurray; as well as seven cherished grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Norman Francis Jean Langlois of Rimbey, Alberta passed away suddenly at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Edmonton on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the age of 78 years. Norm was born on August 21, 1938 in Sudbury, Ontario, one of fifteen children. He was a man with a multitude of job experiences. Having worked for many years for the Ontario Northland Railroad in North Bay, Norm ventured far and wide with his skills of trade. Anyone who knew him would have heard of his fond memories while working at Hannah Bay Goose Camp on Hudson Bay. After leaving North Bay, Norm and Edie ventured west to Atlin, British Columbia, where they built a log home and continued to reside there for twelve years. No matter where they settled, their time together was adventurous. They enjoyed panning for gold, picking berries and wild mushrooms, and catching the odd fish; but of course, his favourite fish was his beloved pickerel from Northern Ontario. His many talents allowed him to build, rebuild, and repair anything; anyone who knew him will attest to this. Norm's passion of crafting beautiful bird houses will live on in the ones he lovingly built for close friends and family. Norm will be forever remembered and sadly missed by his best friend and loving wife of forty years, Edie; his two sons: John (Joanne), and Michael; his two daughters: Donna, and Holly (Mark); and his step daughter, Donna (John); in addition to eight cherished grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Fred’s passion was his Percherons, trucks, his grandsons, and his great grandson. He was a very kind, loving, and generous husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. George was born in Edmonton on October 14, 1938. In 1960, he was united in marriage to Patricia Holstein and together they purchased the farm west of Rimbey. George was a man of many talents; he was a cat skinner, welder, mechanic, and spent numerous years working in the oilfield. Many people may remember George as a collector of special “treasures”, and his place will always be remembered as a well-known local landmark to many. Betty Lorraine Morris, nee Macpherson, 91 years, formerly of Calgary, Alberta passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 23, 2017 surrounded by loved ones at her daughter’s lake house, after a courageous and valiant battle with cancer. Born on Homecrest Farms, Brandon, Manitoba on August 3, 1925, Betty was an accomplished equestrian, showing at the Toronto Royal Exposition at the age of five, and countless other horse shows across Canada. At the young age of 15, she attended the University of Manitoba. Two years later, she went to teach in a one-room school house where her oldest student was only a couple years her junior. Returning home to the farm, she worked alongside her beloved father on the family’s land. In 1952, she married RCMP Constable Vernon Morris and moved to British Columbia where they started their family, before numerous postings around the nation. Sewing instructor for Singer sewing machines, bookkeeper, award-winning realtor, and an avid gardener, Betty will always be remembered for her strength, grace, and beauty. Betty will be forever cherished in the hearts of her loving family: her two daughters: Bette-Jo and her special son-in-law, Keith Nesbitt of Parkland Beach, Alberta; and Debra Morris Richards of Cochrane; as well as her treasured grandchildren: Braden (Catherine) Richards of Montreal, Quebec; and Sarah Richards of Cochrane; and Betty’s great grandson, Stetson of Cochrane; in addition to her sister-in-law, Evelyn Macpherson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marcella Thelma Pulay of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta passed away with her family by her side at the Good Samaritan Clearwater Centre, Rocky Mountain House on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the age of 91 years. She fought a courageous battle of pneumonia, but it won out. Marcella was born at Evergreen, Alberta, the first of four children born to Peter and Tilla Overgaard. She lived in Rocky most of her life with the exception of a couple of years at Canim Lake, Kamloops, B.C. She then returned to Rocky where she remained for the rest of her life. Marcella loved all animals, birds, and the outdoors. She often shared with others her rich faith in God’s word, and his promises for the near future. She adored her family and her spiritual brothers and sisters. Never did she miss going to any function, event, or Christian meetings unless it was impossible for her to attend. Marcella loved music, and was always humming as she used her hard-working hands at every opportunity - they were never idle. She was spunky, comical, and lots of fun to be around. Marcella married into the Randall family in 1945. At the age of 28, pregnant with her fourth child, she contracted polio. This left her paralyzed from the waist down, but against all odds she walked again and had more children. Marcella married Mike Pulay in 1972, and worked alongside him at whatever she could do; cooking, cleaning, gardening, and tail sawing on their lath mill. Everything she did was whole-souled. Later in life, Marcella looked after her own mom, Tilla. She had a suite built onto her home for her, and they were quite inseparable. Marcella definitely had a hard life; from being crippled from the polio epidemic, a battle with cancer, several operations, and raising her children mostly alone. She always pushed herself to do whatever her body would allow, with no complaint. She loved visiting and cooking for her children, as well as friends. Marcella would crochet, knit, sew, quilt, draw pictures, sing, and read the bible and Christian publications in her down or recreational time. She passed down an incredible legacy of love, perseverance, determination, and talent to her beautiful, dedicated, and loyal family. Her prayers for all whom she loved was for them to come to know Jehovah her God and his son Jesus, and to live with her forever in their promised paradise on earth, in health and happiness, so she could walk, run, and dance with her loved ones again.
