Marcella Thelma Pulay of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta passed away with her family by her side at the Good Samaritan Clearwater Centre, Rocky Mountain House on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the age of 91 years. She fought a courageous battle of pneumonia, but it won out.
Marcella was born at Evergreen, Alberta, the first of four children born to Peter and Tilla Overgaard. She lived in Rocky most of her life with the exception of a couple of years at Canim Lake, Kamloops, B.C. She then returned to Rocky where she remained for the rest of her life. Marcella loved all animals, birds, and the outdoors. She often shared with others her rich faith in God’s word, and his promises for the near future. She adored her family and her spiritual brothers and sisters. Never did she miss going to any function, event, or Christian meetings unless it was impossible for her to attend. Marcella loved music, and was always humming as she used her hard-working hands at every opportunity - they were never idle. She was spunky, comical, and lots of fun to be around. Marcella married into the Randall family in 1945. At the age of 28, pregnant with her fourth child, she contracted polio. This left her paralyzed from the waist down, but against all odds she walked again and had more children. Marcella married Mike Pulay in 1972, and worked alongside him at whatever she could do; cooking, cleaning, gardening, and tail sawing on their lath mill. Everything she did was whole-souled. Later in life, Marcella looked after her own mom, Tilla. She had a suite built onto her home for her, and they were quite inseparable. Marcella definitely had a hard life; from being crippled from the polio epidemic, a battle with cancer, several operations, and raising her children mostly alone. She always pushed herself to do whatever her body would allow, with no complaint. She loved visiting and cooking for her children, as well as friends. Marcella would crochet, knit, sew, quilt, draw pictures, sing, and read the bible and Christian publications in her down or recreational time. She passed down an incredible legacy of love, perseverance, determination, and talent to her beautiful, dedicated, and loyal family. Her prayers for all whom she loved was for them to come to know Jehovah her God and his son Jesus, and to live with her forever in their promised paradise on earth, in health and happiness, so she could walk, run, and dance with her loved ones again.
Marcella will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two sons, Calvin (Kim) Randall of Leslieville; and Dan (Linda) Randall of Rocky Mountain House; and four daughters, Rosella (Richard) Brown of Rocky Mountain House; Carole Okte-Hall of Saanichton, B.C.; Velda (Blaine) Zimmer of Rocky Mountain House; and Shelly (Dan) Murias of Red Deer; as well as sixteen cherished grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren; and seven great, great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her brother, Paul (Yvonne) Overgaard of Rocky Mountain House; and her sister, Esther Teerling of Michigan, U.S.A.; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. Marcella was predeceased by her parents, Tilla and Peter; her beloved husband, Mike; her son, Stanley Randall; her great grandson, Greg Brown; and one brother, Sylvie Overgaard.
A Private Family Memorial Service in Celebration of Marcella’s Life will be held at a later date. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer.
