CHRISTIANSON

Dale Christianson of Bluffton, Alberta passed away at his home on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at the age of 67 years. Dale was born on March 13, 1952 in Hanna, Alberta, and lived on what is now the Calgary Stampede Horse Ranch. In 1958 he moved to Chinook, Alberta; where his family had cows, horses, and farmed. Dale was united in marriage to Gloria in 1992, and welcomed two step-daughters into his life. During the summer of 1993, the four of them moved to Bluffton where he continued to raise cows and to further expand his passion for horses. Dale was actively supportive in community events in both Chinook and Rimbey; such as playing cards, rodeos, dances, brandings, and many other events. D

SCHUTZ

Frederick ‘Fred’ George Schutz of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully with family at his side on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at the age of 98 years. Fred was born in Trochu, Alberta on October 14, 1920. He lived for 70 years on a homestead in the Blindman River Valley, and then moved to Rimbey where he resided until his death. Fred was an award-winning writer, as well as a naturalist and historian. He travelled the world and loved exploring and adventure. He spent many hours sharing his knowledge of nature, animals, birds, and the land. Fred’s interests included: photography, bird watching, astronomy, and collecting antiques and artifacts. Dean Joseph Becker of Calgary, Alberta passed away suddenly at the Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the age of 58 years. Dean will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Doug and Evelyn Becker of Rimbey; and his two sisters, Linda Stewart (Will Neufeld) of Black Creek, B.C.; and Shelley Becker (Shawn Lowes) of Millet, Alberta. He passed away suddenly, with his family by his side, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Monday, March 18, 2019 at the age of 67 years. A. Menz Sherwood of Winfield, Alberta passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the age of 93 years. Menz will be remembered and missed by his siblings: his brother, Don of Lethbridge; and his three sisters, Inis Froam of Sylvan Lake; Illana Rudy of Ladysmith, B.C.; and Irene Shelfontiuk of Castlegar, B.C.; in addition to several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many cherished friends. Dr. William (Bill) Brodie Berkenkamp died quickly and peacefully at the age of 88 years on March 14, 2019, with his daughter, Christine and son-in-law, Robert at his side. Bill was born on January 30, 1931, and was raised by his father, William (Bill) and mother, Dorothy on the family ranch, now part of Mesa, Arizona. After high school, Bill went to agricultural school intending to take over the family ranch. However, after marrying his wife, Garlo (nee Freestone), Bill was drafted into the US Army for service in the Korean War.
