Rose Eleanor Smith of Caroline, Alberta passed away peacefully, following a short illness, at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at the age of 92 years.
Rose lived in Caroline all her life, and in the last few years she went to town every morning for breakfast and a visit with her many treasured friends. Rose took great pride in her yard and gardens. There were beautiful flowers everywhere, and an abundance of vegetables, all of which she shared with anyone visiting. It kept her busy. In her mind, sitting around was never an option. Rose was especially proud of her family and loved the many campouts they had for her birthdays. All she wanted for her 92nd birthday was a family wiener roast ‘out west’, which her family promptly organized! Taking care of her appearance was always a must.
“We are truly blessed to have had such a beautiful lady in our lives.”
Rose will be forever remembered and sadly missed by her loving children: her four sons, Wayne Smith of Caroline; Larry (Judy) Smith of Eckville; Allen Smith of Caroline; and Melvin Smith (Toni), also of Caroline; and her daughter, Marilyn (Glen) Ouderkirk of Rimbey; as well as eleven cherished grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her brother, Louis (Evelyn) Johnson of Sundre; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband, Stanley in 1996; her daughter-in-law, Leora; one brother, Gordon; and four sisters: Ruth, Margaret, Ellen and Florence.
Everyone was invited to share in a Celebration of Rose’s Life, which was held at the Caroline Community HUB, 5103 - 48 Avenue, Caroline on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Rose’s Memory may be made directly to the charity of one’s choice.
