FRY

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne “Josie” Fry of Rimbey, Alberta.  Josie passed away at the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the age of 70 years.

Josie was born in Vancouver, British Columbia and spent most of her life in and around the Little Shuswap, Cranbrook, and 100 Mile House in British Columbia; as well as in Calgary, Alberta.  She showed people how much she loved and cared for them by either lending an ear to listen, or providing advice when it was needed.  Josie was intelligent, caring, loving, strong-willed, and never hesitated to make her opinion known.  She cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchild, always ensuring they knew that she was there for them.

Although Josie spent the majority of her life living with chronic pain, she always tried her best to push through and enjoy her life to the fullest.  She enjoyed tropical vacations, golfing, playing pool, riding her motorcycle, and slow-pitch.  Her love for all animals, particularly dogs, was obvious by how much she spoiled her beloved Pomeranians and many other different pets over the years.

“Josie will be dearly missed by all her friends and family,

old and new.”

Josie is survived by her loving mother Stella Vaughan; daughters Kim (Rob) Blondin and Cindy Doubt; her treasured grandchildren Terri, Cori, Jessica, Amy, and Emma; and her precious great-granddaughter Heaven.  She also leaves behind her siblings Glen (Robyn) Vaughan, Marilyn Walsh, and John Vaughan; her ex-husband Robert Fry; nieces Marsha and Karen; nephews Trevor, Stuart, and Mark; along with numerous cousins and special friends.  Josie was predeceased by her father Ken Vaughan; her grandson Jacob Doubt; an uncle Jerry Vaughan; and her niece Shannon Walsh.

With respect for Josie’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held at this time.  In keeping with her love for animals, memorial donations in Josie’s memory may be made directly to the Central Alberta Humane Society, 4505 – 77 Street, Red Deer, Alberta  T4P 2J1 (www.cahumane.com).  Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
