FENWICK

It is with great sadness that our family shares the sudden passing of our mother, sister, wife, grandmother, aunt, and great-aunt, Judy Constance Fenwick (née Skeels), age 79 years, of Hoadley, Alberta.  Judy passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026, where she loved to be – and among those she enjoyed being with – her dear friends at the Rimbey New Life Fellowship Church.  Her date of death is the same date as her mother’s was 57 years earlier.

Judy was born on November 27, 1946, in Kelowna, British Columbia, and was the third youngest child in a family of eleven children.  After Judy’s second youngest sibling was born, the family moved back to Crestomere, Alberta where she attended the Crestomere and Rimbey schools. 

Judy married Roy Fenwick in May, 1965, with their daughter, Connie, arriving in February, 1966; followed by their son, Don “Donald”, in April, 1969.  She worked at the Rimbey General Hospital and at the Chapparell Restaurant.  In 1978, their family moved to Edmonton where Judy worked at McCoy Brothers, and as a resident property manager.  Judy and Roy returned to the Crestomere area in February of 2001, four months before Roy passed away.

A couple of years later, while working at the Grand Hotel, Judy met Melvin Skaar.  They resided at Poulsen’s Pasture near Gull Lake until 2006, at which time they relocated to Ponoka.  After Melvin’s passing in 2019, Judy lived in Sylvan Lake and Rimbey for a few years before marrying Floyd Hartman in June, 2022.  They resided in Hoadley until Judy’s passing.  

Some of Judy’s much-loved pastimes included:  painting, attending and volunteering at numerous Blue Grass Festivals throughout Alberta, travelling, swimming, going to family reunions, and attending her favourite church – the Rimbey New Life Fellowship.

Judy is survived by her husband Floyd; her daughter Connie Chorney (Ken W.); and her son Don (Kamey) Fenwick; as well as her cherished grandchildren Melissa (Khaymen) Shook, Alena Chorney (Kai), and Beth, Will, and Claire Fenwick.  She is also survived by her sister Susan (JP) Giasson; three sisters-in-law Sharon, Dianne, and Sandra Skeels; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of treasured friends.  Judy was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Constance Skeels; her husbands, Roy Fenwick and Melvin Skaar; along with six brothers and three sisters.

Together, Judy’s family and her devoted church community are hosting a Celebration of her Life at the Rimbey New Life Fellowship Church, 5038 – 49 Avenue, Rimbey on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Ricky Williams and Pastor Eric Robideau officiating.  Refreshments will follow.  Judy will be laid to rest in the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey at a later date.  Additionally, a reunion of family and friends in her honour will take place at a future time.  If desired, memorial donations in Judy’s memory may be made directly to any local Food Bank or any local Women’s Emergency Shelter in your area.  Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
