Wayne Joseph Meyer of Breton, Alberta passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on the morning of Monday, June 1, 2026, at the age of 77 years.
Wayne was born in Nordegg, Alberta on April 29, 1949, the third of four boys to his parents Anthony and Marion Meyer. At the age of nine years, Wayne and his family moved to a farm near Rosalind, Alberta where he grew up exploring the Central Alberta prairies. After he left school, Wayne started out working with Safeway before getting married and moving to Fort Nelson, B.C. There he built a career in the forestry industry working at the lumber mill, where he eventually became the shipping manager. Later on, Wayne returned to Alberta and spent a few years living back at the family home in Rosalind. In his 60s, Wayne moved into the seniors’ residence in Breton and became known for his wit – and as the local coffee shop for everyone – always ready with a fresh pot!
Wayne is survived by his three children Dustin, Darrin, and Samantha; his ex-wife Laurie; his brother Gordon and his children Patrick, Michael, Karen, and Kerri-Ann, and their partners and families; and his brother Ken (Carolyn) and their children Dalene, Trenton, and Amber, and their partners and families. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother Rodney; and his sister-in-law Diane.
Wayne’s family would like to thank his neighbours and friends at the Spruce View Court seniors’ residence for the friendship and support they offered Wayne during his ten years in the community.
Wayne was laid to rest next to his parents and brother at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery, Rosalind on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Deacon Doug Tien presiding. A Celebration of his Life was held Friday evening in the Common Room at Spruce View Court, 181 Willow Drive, Breton. If desired, memorial donations in Wayne’s memory may be made directly to the Breton FCC Food Bank, Box 57, Breton, Alberta T0C 0P0. Please make cheques payable to the “Breton FCC Food Bank”.
