With great sadness we announce the passing of Patrick “Pat” Joseph Halko, of Bentley, Alberta.  He passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the age of 82 years.

Pat was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1944, and was raised on the family farm in Chaplin, Saskatchewan.  He graduated high school in Chaplin and went on to attend the Saskatchewan Teacher’s College in Regina, Saskatchewan.  Almost right away, Pat realized he didn’t want this indoor career and he acquired a job with Mobil Oil Corporation instead, working his way to the position of supervisor of construction for most of western Canada.  Pat spent a brief time working in Libya, but he was soon back in Canada as he preferred to be a homebody and stay close to home.  Pat enjoyed many things, including trail riding in the mountains and golfing with his brothers for a week’s excursion every summer.  He also immensely enjoyed living on the family farm very much.  It was his happy place where he enjoyed every moment of each day doing the things he loved.

Pat is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy; his daughter Tammy of Bentley; and his brother Scott, also of Bentley.  He is additionally survived by his niece Debbie (Glen) of Medicine Hat; nephew Ward, also of Medicine Hat; niece Melissa (Christoph) of Berlin, Germany; and niece Brittany of Kelowna, B.C.  Pat was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Mame; his sister and brother-in-law Debra and Bill Davis of Kelowna, B.C.; his brother and sister-in-law Peter and Merle Halko of Medicine Hat; his sister-in-law Jody Halko of Edmonton; and a nephew Dallas, also of Edmonton.

A Family-hosted Informal Gathering Celebrating Pat’s Life will be held at the Blindman Valley Agricultural Centre, 5202 – 53 Street Close, Bentley on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., with Mr. Don Sutherland, hosting.  If desired, memorial donations in Pat’s memory may be made directly to MS Canada, Suite 500, 250 Dundas Street West, Toronto, Ontario  M5T 2Z5 (www.mscanada.ca); or to STARS Air Ambulance, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570, Calgary, Alberta  T2E 8M7 (www.stars.ca).  Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
