Brant Dallas Laczo of Winfield, Alberta, our beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on his farm on Monday, October 26, 2026, at the age of 62 years.

Born on March 18, 1964 in Rimbey, Alberta, Brant was raised on the family farm near Winfield where he developed a lifelong love of farming and horses, inspired by his parents and the life they built together.  Fresh out of high school, Brant went to work on the rigs and eventually purchased a quarter section of land of his own.  Alongside his parents and siblings, he helped build and operate a 200–horse PMU barn, dedicating years of hard work to the operation and furthering his passion for the horse industry.  When the PMU industry declined, Brant turned his focus to cattle farming, continuing the agricultural way of life that had always been such an important aspect of who he was.

Brant was a proud horseman and cattle farmer who found happiness in the outdoors and the simple pleasures of country living.  He loved hunting, horseback riding, and snowmobiling; but above all, he loved spending time with his horses.  His passion for horses and the knowledge he gained throughout his life were an integral part of his identity.

One of Brant’s greatest joys was being a father to his son Dakota.  He loved sharing his many interests and hobbies with him, passing along the skills, knowledge, and love of the outdoors that had shaped his own life.  Brant’s legacy will live on through Dakota and his beloved new grandson, Walter, who will carry his name and a part of his story into the next generation.

Brant will be lovingly remembered by his son Dakota (Shelby) Laczo; and his cherished grandson, Walter.  He will also be lovingly remembered by his parents Don and  Shirley Laczo; his brother Tony (Carrie) Laczo and their family, Cody Laczo and Carlee (Shaun) Zawartka; and his two sisters Geraldine (Rory) Patten and their family, Ty Patten and Tatum (Kale) Peterson; and Melisa Laczo and her fiancé Chad Hahn; as well as many extended family members, countless friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Brant’s life was rooted in family, hard work, the land, and his love of horses.  Although he will be deeply missed; the memories he created, the lessons he shared, and the legacy he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A Memorial Service in Honour of Brant’s Life will be held at the Winfield Community Hall, 401 – 6 Street East, Winfield on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Jeff Gooderham officiating.  A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow.  All family, friends, and members of the community are warmly welcomed to attend and pay their respects.  If desired, memorial donations in Brant’s memory may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 1200 – 2300 Yonge Street, Box 2414, Toronto, Ontario  M4P 1E4 (wwwheartandstroke.ca).  Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
