It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Margaret Ann Lorenson of Bluffton, Alberta. Margaret passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the age of 83 years.
Margaret was born on December 12, 1942, in Claresholm, Alberta. She was the daughter of Archibald and Margaret Ritchie, and was raised in Bonnyville, Alberta along with her siblings: David, Jean, Archie, Rose, Caroline, Marion, and Charlie. Margaret attended high school in Bonnyville, then moved to Calgary where she lived with her grandmother for a few years. When she ventured out on her own, she enrolled in a comptometer training course and shortly afterwards acquired her first job at Macdonalds Consolidated. Margaret then moved into a financial administration position for Pan American Oil.
On October 1, 1966, she married the love of her life, Norm Lorenson. This union was blessed with two children, Laura and David, and the young family resided at Bluffton on the farm they built and grew into a loving home. Margaret was a master of anything and everything. Her passion for the farm, loving her husband and her children, enjoying a good rodeo, and spending time gardening, baking, and cooking was the key to the heart of the family. Margaret always had a loving and positive personality, with a laugh that was unforgettable. She will be greatly missed.
Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend, Norm; her daughter Laura (Nels) Grinde; and her son David (Melissa) Lorenson; as well as her grandchildren Kayla (Sonny) Christensen, Ryan (Anastasiia) Clark, Malena Lorenson, and Ava Lorenson; and her precious great-grandchildren Knox and Jax Christensen, and Greyson and Christian Clark. She will also be lovingly remembered by her siblings, many other family members, and several close friends. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Archibald and Margaret; her brother David Ritchie; and her sister Marion Butler.
A Funeral Service in Celebration of Margaret’s Life will be held at the Rimbey United Church, 4931 – 51 Avenue, Rimbey on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with the Reverend Ross Smillie officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the Iola Fairview Cemetery, Bluffton. If desired, the family kindly asks that memorial donations in her memory be made to the local food bank, where Margaret was a yearly supporter. Donations can be made directly to the Rimbey Food Bank, Box 404, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0 (www.rchhs.com).
