DWYER

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dean William Dwyer of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.  Dean passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Long Term Care on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the age of 59 years. 

Dean was born in Edmonton, Alberta and moved with his family to Rocky Mountain House where he grew up enjoying the outdoors, being involved in Scouts, and active in all sports; his favourites being basketball and football.  He played on the high school, Rocky Rebels, football team and often recalled many wonderful memories of that time.  Dean was also a huge, lifelong Edmonton Eskimos and Edmonton Oilers fan!!  Dean met his first wife, Lisa, in high school.  Following graduation, they were married and had two children, divorcing in 1994.  He then met and married Colleen Magee in September, 1995, moving to an acreage northeast of Rocky Mountain House where they raised two additional children.  Dean loved spending time woodworking and taking care of the property.  He would spend days drawing up plans for the acreage and took immense pride in bringing his visions to life. 

He also worked in the family-owned Rocky Lanes Bowling Alley for many years, and was an accomplished bowler, placing in many provincial tournaments.  In the spring of 2021 Dean suffered a massive stroke, which changed his life completely and took away almost all of his independence.  This was an enormous blow to him and his family.  After many months of occupational and physical therapy at the Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury, Dean transferred to the Rimbey Long Term Care facility.  Although the stroke stole most of his ability to show the absolute joy and love he had for his beautiful grandchildren, they were the light of his life.  In the final months of his life, Dean found a real passion for painting and spent many hours creating beauty that helped in a small way to heal the hearts of his wife and children.

Dean will be lovingly remembered by his wife Colleen Dwyer; and his children Samantha Brousseau (Rejean), Nicolas Dwyer, Devin Dwyer (Delia Loomis), and Lauryl Dwyer; as well as three precious grandchildren.  He will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters Denienne Enns and Dori Sheremeto; in addition to many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.  Dean was predeceased by his father Edward Dwyer and his mother Carol Lynne Dwyer (née Eickmeyer). 

Dean’s family would like to thank the staff of Rimbey Long Term Care for their years of compassion, patience, and dedication to the daily caretaking of their loved one.  Your genuine and heartfelt caring during Dean’s passing will never be forgotten. 

A Family-hosted Informal Gathering to Celebrate the life of Dean William Dwyer will be held at the Walking Eagle Inn & Lodge, 4819 – 45 Street, Rocky Mountain House on Saturday, July 4, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The family would like memorial donations in Dean’s memory made directly to the Rimbey Long Term Care Recreational Therapy Department, in order that they may continue to inspire passion and joy to those who are in search of meaning.  Please forward to the care of the Rimbey Hospital Legacy Committee, Box 440, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0 (www.rimbeyhospitallegacycommittee.com).
