It is with deep sadness that the family of Bob Chodak of Bentley, Alberta announces his peaceful passing at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the age of 72 years.
Bob grew up in the Westlock, Alberta area until his mid-20s, finding immense joy and passion in farming before moving to the city to begin his other lifelong career as a proud, skilled plumber, gasfitter, and pipefitter. His life took him between Edmonton, Calgary, and Westlock before finally settling in Bentley, where he could be close to Nicole, Brandon, and their children.
He was incredibly involved in his children’s lives. Bob spent years coaching his son Brandon’s multiple sports teams and sharing quiet days fishing across Alberta’s lakes. He was also a passionate hockey fan. Some of his daughter Nicole’s best memories are travelling to games with her dad to cheer on the Edmonton Oilers during their prime era. In his later years, you could always find Bob in the stands, happily cheering on his grandchildren at their own sporting events. He was known for being quite the dancer in his younger days, and he would always be up for a game of cards if you asked. You could also always strike up a conversation with him about his prized troll collection.
Bob leaves behind his children Nicole (Chris), Miranda (Trevor), and Brandon (Lindsay); and six cherished grandchildren Austin, Bailey, Xanthan, Phoenix, Ariah, and Alexa. He is also survived by one brother Sandy (Trish); and five sisters Rose, Joyce, Adrienne, Phyllis (Terry), and Kathy (John); as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Wes and Martha; and two sisters Carol and Marge.
A Family-hosted Memorial Gathering to Celebrate Bob’s Life will be held at the Rimbey Seniors Drop-in Centre, 5110 – 53 Avenue, Rimbey on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. If desired, memorial donations in his memory may be made directly to the Boys and Girls Club Wolf Creek Rimbey, c/o BGC Wolf Creek, Box 4115, Ponoka, Alberta T4J 1R5 (www.rimbey.bgcwolfcreek.com). Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
