Vera Mae Webb (née Hunter) of Rimbey, Alberta passed away at the Killam Health Care Centre in Killam, Alberta, at the age of 88 years, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. She was just two days away from her next birthday on May 1st.
Vera was a caregiver most of her life, starting at Beulah Home in Edmonton caring for sick babies. She later worked at the Stettler Hospital, caring for seniors. Vera spent her lifetime caring for others – her husband and children, her parents and grandparents. For a time, Vera worked at the telephone office in Rimbey as an operator, and she also worked in the Bluffton Post Office sorting mail and serving customers. Vera enjoyed helping people and supporting those who were in need. Often, she gave finances secretly and never added her name to the gift. Wherever Vera and her husband Bernard lived, they seemed to be loved greatly.
After Bernard’s death, Vera lived in Calgary and Grande Prairie before returning back to Rimbey. She became “Mom” and “Grandma” to many adults and children alike… and often stated, “the more the merrier!” Vera liked to knit, crochet, and sew. She made blankets, quilts, knitted afghans, slippers, and socks. Most of what she created, Vera lovingly gave away. Many people have been the lucky recipients of her talents.
Vera seldom missed her morning devotions. She read God’s word and prayed for her family and friends. When there was a prayer need, you could count on Vera to pray. And God seemed to listen and act.
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’” Matthew 25:21
Vera is survived and greatly missed by her children: Greg (Bev), Douglas (Shelly), Bonnie Mae, Jack (Brenda), and Julie (Victor); as well as being dearly loved by her fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Joyce (Garry) Myers and Donna (Ernie) Schock; in addition to all her nieces and nephews. Vera was predeceased by her loving husband, Bernard Webb; her granddaughter, Katrina Webb; her parents, George and Irene Hunter; her brother, Donald Hunter; her grandparents, Merton and Phena Challand; and her brother- and sister-in-law, Adrian and Thelma Resta.
A Funeral Service in Celebration of Vera’s Life will be held at the Rimbey Church of the Nazarene, 5214 – 51 Street, Rimbey on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Reg Lartec and Pastor Doug Webb officiating. Interment will follow at 4:30 p.m. in the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey.
If desired, memorial donations in Vera’s memory may be made directly to the Rimbey Church of the Nazarene, Box 889, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0 (www.rimnaz.com). Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
