HALL

Douglas “Doug” Bruce Hall of Winfield, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Long Term Care on Monday, February 12, 2024, just shy of his 85th birthday.

Doug was born in Eckville, Alberta and spent most of his adult life living in Red Deer and working for Canada Post.  He moved to Winfield in 1992 after he retired, and was soon joined by his best friend and companion, Annis Bovbjerg, to start building their retirement home together, and settle into their new community.  Doug had many hobbies over the years, but his most recent passion was building hot rod cars.  He would spend way too many hours at auctions, in car part stores, and scouring everywhere looking for car bits and pieces – that usually sat on the lawn much to Annis’ dismay!  Doug would spend hours out in the shop tinkering, fixing, upholstering (with Annis’ help), and painting to create some pretty amazing cars.  He was very proud of one car in particular; a 1938 Plymouth, four-door hot rod sedan in fire orange.  Doug would take this beauty to parades, local Show and Shine events, and take his family and friends out for a rip.

Doug will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his daughter Kim (Hank) Leonhardt of Victoria, British Columbia; grandsons Eric (Alexandra) Roy of Montreal, Quebec and Joel Roy of Gatineau, Quebec; and great-granddaughter Leia Sandu-Roy; as well as his two stepdaughters Annette (John) Cusworth of Ladner, British Columbia and Rhonda Bovbjerg (Bill) of Langley, British Columbia; and grandchildren Riley Bovbjerg, Caitlin Cusworth (Jesse), and Natasha Cusworth.  He will also be deeply missed by many treasured friends, with extra thanks to his friends Albert Brandl, Kevin Johnson, and Judy Pentland who helped Doug so much during his final time.  Doug was predeceased by Annis; his parents Gladys and stepfather Lyle Fidler; and his siblings Dean, Alberta, Keith, and Mona.

With respect for Doug’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held.  If desired, memorial donations in his memory may be made directly to the charity of one’s choice.  Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
