LUCAS

Shirley Fay Lucas, affectionately known as ‘Ma’, of Rimbey, Alberta passed away quietly at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the age of 86 years.

Shirley was born in Calgary, Alberta on February 8, 1933. As a youngster, she obtained her schooling in the Turner Valley, Alberta area, later moving to Calgary as a young woman where she worked for a time at the Land Titles office. In 1962, Shirley was united in marriage to Wray Lucas, and in 1965, together with their children, Linda and Guy, they moved to the Rimbey area to begin their adventure of farming. Shirley had a natural knack for the farm, and enjoyed absolutely everything about it. With Wray busy in the construction industry, Shirley ran their farm with perfection and took the greatest pleasure in everything from milking the cows to feeding the pigs. She simply loved her farm, and when she wasn't tending to her family or the animals, Shirley could be found in her gardens or seated somewhere creating a beautiful painting. She also had a passion for curling, and looked forward to ice season every winter. In the spring, she couldn't wait to be outside, enjoying the sunshine and her surroundings.

"There are special people in our lives who will never leave us ... even after they are gone.

Rest in peace, Ma - until we meet again."

Shirley will always be remembered and greatly missed by her loving family: her two sons, Jim (Linda) Hudson of Lethbridge; and Guy (Amanda) Lucas of Rimbey; and her daughter-in-law, Jan Lucas also of Rimbey; as well as eight treasured grandchildren, and eight precious great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her brother, Keith (Eileen) Hedley of Spruce Grove; and her sister, Merlyn (Dave) Basaraba of Calgary; in addition to nieces and nephews, other family members, and many cherished friends. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Everett and Sheila Hedley; her beloved husband, Wray in 2007; her daughter, Linda Tucker in 1980; her stepson, Ken in 2002; and a grandson, Nathan.

A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Shirley’s Life was held at the Last West Community Hall, Rimbey on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Wayne McCrackin officiating. She was laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Wray in the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey at a later date.
