DAMIANI

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Reginald John Damiani of Rimbey, Alberta passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the age of 91 years.

Reg was born in Rimbey on September 15, 1928, the youngest of three children born to Dominic and Maria Damiani. He spent his early years on the family farm in the Fuller District west of Rimbey, and attended school at Fuller and Lavesta. Reg began his working career farming for his brother-in-law, Wilfred Marchildon, and then went to work on the drilling rigs, mainly with Regent Drilling. During this time, Reg met the love of his life, Shirley Stern, and they were married in 1954. Reg and Shirley continued to travel around Northern Alberta with the rigs until 1960, when they purchased their farm in the Lavesta District. In addition to farming, Reg also worked at the Rimbey Gas Plant for over 30 years. He sold the farm to his son, Shane in 1992 and retired from the gas plant in 1993, but continued to help around the farm for many years. During the early 60s, Reg played guitar in a dance band. He was always busy tinkering or building something, and loved inventing easier ways to do things. He also enjoyed dancing, and especially enjoyed their many camping trips to Prairie Creek with family and friends. Reg was proud of his family, and loved to spend time with them. His grandchildren loved to listen to his many stories about his experiences on the drilling rigs, as much as Reg liked telling them!

Reg will always be remembered and greatly missed by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; and his four children: Pamela (Bob) Lawson, Shane (Shelley) Damiani, Darren Damiani (Theresa Pletz), and Shauna (Geoff) Brodie; as well as nine cherished grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brother, Reno (Beth) Damiani; and two sisters-in-law, Irene Cross and Norma Stern; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many close friends. Reg was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Lena; his father and mother-in-law, Charles and Ida Stern; sisters-in-law, Amy Bushey and Elsie Reis; and brothers-in-law, Wilfred Marchildon, George Stern, Norman Stern, Wilfred Bushey, Tobi Cross, and Joe Reis.

A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Reg’s Life will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church, Rimbey on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Schultz officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Iola Fairview Cemetery, Bluffton at a later date.
