Doris Jean Garries of Bentley, Alberta passed away at the Bentley Care Centre on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at the age of 97 years.

Doris was born in Loverna, Saskatchewan on October 23, 1922. The family moved to New Brigden, Alberta, and in September, 1933 her father purchased the Co-op General Store in Bentley. Doris married Ralph Henry ‘Red’ Garries on September 4, 1950. Her family was her whole life, and her pride and joy.

Doris is survived by her loving children: Leslie (Ken) Haarstad, William (Leslie) Garries, and Robert (Verna) Garries, all of Bentley, and Patricia (Gregory) Keir of Mississauga, Ontario; her grandchildren: Michelle, Barbara, Scott, Charmane, Gregory, John, and Jennifer; twelve great grandchildren; as well as her brother, Lloyd Holmes of Saanichton, B.C. and his family. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Red in 1987; her brother, Leslie just two short months ago; her parents, Bill and Mary Holmes; and her sister-in-law, Sharon Holmes.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Rimbey on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Father Les Drewicki, Celebrant. Interment followed in the Bentley Cemetery, Bentley where Doris was laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Red.

Doris resided for the last five-and-a-half years at the Bentley Care Centre. The care she received was second-to-none, and Doris’ family will always consider the staff as part of their extended family.
