STEADMAN
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Veronia ‘Verna’ Steadman (nee Raddysh), our loving and devoted mother, and friend to all whose lives she touched. Verna left us peacefully on May 28, 2020 at her residence in her 92nd year, with family by her side and in their hearts.
Verna was born in Theodore, Saskatchewan and raised on the family farm with her four siblings: Mary, Bill, Nick, and George. After the completion of rural grade school, Verna enrolled in secretarial college in Saskatoon, and after graduation began a career as a medical receptionist. It was during this time that she met and married a young (RCAF) airman, Fred in 1953. Verna and Fred embarked on many adventures, trials, and tribulations in all that goes with the raising of ten children. She lived a full life as a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, aunt, Baba, great Baba, gardener, and homemaker. Most of all, Verna loved her family and instilled in us strong values and a sense of humour that she hoped would serve us well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Verna leaves to cherish her memory and to celebrate her life, her much-loved children: David (Martha) Steadman, Diana Steadman, Allan (Brenda) Steadman, Michael (Brenda) Steadman, Marlene (Eric) McCartney, Anne Steadman, Fred (Theresa) Steadman, Karen (Jim) McCartney, Verna Jean (Cory) Steadman, and Kelly Steadman; as well as her grandchildren: Christopher (Diana) Bushell, Katie Patterson, Chad (Sabrina) Neigum, Amanda Steadman, Krystal (Roy) Poznikoff, Kenneth (Chyna) Steadman, Adam (Lia) Steadman, Briana (Tony) Steadman, Shambrai Schultz, Braden Schultz, Kelli Leigh (Andy) Robinson, Justin (Tessa) McCartney, Cole (Kaely) McCartney, Logan (Brittni) Plamondon, Lea-Anne (Cory) McCartney, and Terilee (Nickki) McCartney; her great grandchildren: Seth, Tylan, Theo, Paityn, Parker, Jude, Jackson, Dontae, Zadyn, Steele, Maverick, Teron, Alexander, Bella, Hunter, and Imani; in addition to her sister-in-law, Maxine Pierce; and numerous nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.
Verna was predeceased by her devoted husband, Fred in 2007; her parents, John and Eva Raddysh; and her siblings: sister, Mary and her husband, Anton Malinowski; brothers: Nick and his wife, Mary Raddysh, Bill and his wife, Elvie Raddysh, and George and his wife, Peg Raddysh; and her nephew, Cornell Malinowski; and niece, Beverly Raddysh.
Verna’s Family expresses heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the compassion and care that our mother received from Dr. S.R. Fugler, his wife, and staff; as well as Alberta Health Services (AHS); EMS paramedic, Craig; and the home support nurses, Stephanie and Pam.
A Celebration of Verna’s Life will be announced and held at a later date when it is safe for family and friends to gather. Verna was laid to rest in the Innisfail Cemetery, Innisfail, Alberta. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Verna’s memory may be made directly to STARS Air Ambulance, 1441 Aviation Park N.E., Box 570, Calgary, Alberta T2E 8M7 (www.stars.ca); the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 100-119 14 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 1Z6 (www.heartandstroke.ca); or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 – 325 Manning Road N.E., Calgary, Alberta T2E 2P5 (www.cancer.ca).
