LAY
It is with very heavy hearts we announce that our loving husband, father, grampa, son, brother, uncle, and friend, James Scott Lay of Rimbey, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre – Long Term Care on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at the age of 70 years.
Scott was born in Pendleton, Oregon on October 14, 1952. He served with the United States Army for six years, was an agronomist in the area of field-crop production, and always remained a cowboy at heart. Scott enjoyed rodeo, fly fishing, playing the guitar and singing, telling stories, and a good bout of laughter! His greatest joy in life was his family, and Scott loved his kids and granddaughters with all his heart. He will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his family and friends.
Scott is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Stacey; his children Jay (Noemi) Lay, Curtis Lay, and Elizabeth (Garett) Stoner; as well as three precious granddaughters Ayla, Emily, and Hannah. He is also survived by his sister Susan (Gary) Panasiuk; his brother Jeff Lay; in addition to several nieces and nephews; other extended family members; and many close friends. Scott was predeceased by his parents Jim and Peggy; his stepdad Pete Stokes; two brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and three nieces and a nephew.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Long Term Care staff in Area Two and Area Three at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre. The kind attention and compassion shown to Scott is sincerely appreciated. A special thank you is extended to Dr. de Bruyn for his devoted care over the years.
A Gathering of Family and Friends in Celebration of Scott’s Life was held at the Bluffton Community Hall on Sunday, February 26, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with Diane Weening Arsenault hosting. All were cordially invited to this time of sharing memories, fellowship, and refreshments. As Scott “never met a dessert he didn’t love” – in his honour, guests were invited to bring their favourite dessert to share! If friends desire, memorial tributes in Scott’s memory may be made directly to the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre – Long Term Care, c/o the Rimbey Hospital Legacy Committee, Box 440, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0 (www.rimbeyhospitallegacycommittee.com).
