With deep sadness we announce the passing of Douglas “Doug” David Donovan of Rimbey, Alberta.  Doug passed away at the Valley View Manor, Rimbey on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the age of 77 years.

Born in Rimbey on July 5, 1948, to Edward and Margaret Donovan, Doug was raised in the Bluffton, Alberta area.  He spent his life doing what he loved most, which was working with animals and on the land for various farmers throughout Central Alberta.  Doug also displayed a distinct talent for building computers and electronics, and he enjoyed engaging in online gaming with people from all over the world.  He had a knack for the mechanical aspects of computers, spending many hours appreciating everything technology had to offer.  Doug also possessed a kind and gentle manner that seemed to attract little children who whole-heartedly adored their “Uncle Dougie”.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Doug will be lovingly remembered by his siblings Sharon (Walter) Cooledge of Red Deer; Cliff Donovan of Edmonton; and Margo (Dee) Hawksworth of Rimbey.  He will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews:  Ashley (TJ) of Rimbey and their daughter Sophie; Cody (Nicole) of Blackfalds/Kamloops and their daughter Maci; and Dustin of Lethbridge; as well as Brandon of Leduc and his son Maxwell; Deeanne (Ryan) of Dodsland, Saskatchewan and their children Alexis, Jacob, Simon, and Jessica; and Malora (Cam) of D’Arcy, Saskatchewan and their children Henry, George, and Iola; in addition to numerous cousins, other family members, and many friends.  Doug was predeceased by his father Ed Donovan in 1975; and his mother Margaret Donovan in 2005.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Rimbey on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverend Father Leon Kler officiating.  Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Bluffton.  If  desired, memorial donations in Doug’s memory may be made directly to the Valley View Manor, Box 740, Rimbey, Alberta  T0C 2J0.  Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
