With profound sadness we announce the passing of our dear and most witty brother, Mark Michael Gallichan of Leslieville, Alberta. Mark passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 4, 2025, after a short and unexpected battle with cancer.
To describe Mark’s complex and yet simple life would be almost impossible. He overcame a very serious mental health diagnosis that shaped his younger life, but ended up being his most magnificent triumph! Mark enjoyed many activities; such as fishing, camping, skiing, and motorcycle riding to name a few. He was beyond intelligent, and as already mentioned, was always ready with a witty comment or comeback in any conversation. We will always cherish those memories!
Mark is survived by his sisters who will miss him dearly, Shannon Owen and Karen Wanstall (Shane). He leaves behind his nieces and nephews: Jeramie Gallichan (Pam), Laura Lea Bennett, Becky Ramzan (Naz), Michael Bennett, Patricia Gallichan Rule, Zackary Gallichan-Owen, and Haylee Hamill (Clay); along with several great-nieces and great-nephews. Mark is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved and supported him over the past 61 years.
He was predeceased by his older brother Kirk, who we are sure met him at the pearly gates, fishing poles in hand! Mark was also predeceased by his beloved father Foster Gallichan; his cherished mother Sandra Gallichan (née Law); his stepmother Jeni Gallichan; in addition to his paternal and maternal grandparents, Vaughn and Mary Gallichan and James and Audrey Law.
With respect for Mark’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. His desire was to have his cremated remains laid at the foot of the same mountain where our father was laid to rest. If desired, memorial donations in Mark’s memory may be made directly to the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta, so that those who suffer from this disease may enjoy the triumph our most amazing brother enjoyed! Please forward in Mark’s honour directly to the provincial office at: 4809 – 48 Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 3T2 (www.schizophrenia.ab.ca).
