With sadness we announce the passing of Ivan Wesley Houghton of Rimbey, Alberta. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was born on July 4, 1927, and passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the age of 96 years.
Ivan was a jack-of-all-trades, and a master of lots of them! From a pack-horse guide in B.C., to seismic and relief drilling of landslides for the railway and roads, Ivan eventually settled for farming in the Rimbey area. To supplement the farm income, he worked for CWS Petro Services running maintenance crews, and later, operations in the oil and gas industry. With retirement, Ivan and Annie moved into Rimbey to enjoy many years of trips, golfing, family gatherings, and friends. He lived out his days in their retirement home until his heart finally slowed him down. Ivan passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre with his life-long companion Annie by his side.
Ivan will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Annie; three sons Wes (Doris), Jim, and Bill (Lorena); as well as six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many cherished friends. Ivan was predeceased by his parents William and Henrietta; his grandson Ryan; four brothers Ted, Gordon, Allan, and Vern; and two sisters Freda and Stella.
A public Funeral Service in Ivan’s Honour will be celebrated at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Rimbey on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverend Father Leon Kler officiating. Ivan will be laid to rest in the Columbarium at the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey at a later date.
