HOWELLS

We are saddened to announce the passing of Iain Howells of Rimbey, Alberta. He passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the age of 60 years.

Iain was born in Sheffield, England on March 21, 1961. Following college, he owned his own pigs at the family home in Handsacre, England until his father passed away. This was his first adventure with pig farming. Iain then obtained his Class 1 truck driving license and embarked on a journey driving truck around most of Europe. He met his future wife, Joy in October of 1989. He had always known Joy’s family, as he went to school with her brother. Their daughter, Dani was born in 1992, and on September 6, 1997 their happy family of three was united in marriage. As Dani got older, Iain wanted to be home more so he returned to pig farming. In 1998 they relocated to Monikie, Scotland to continue farming, and then a move to Canada on April 20, 2005 brought them to pig farming at the Holtkamp Farm west of Rimbey. In 2007 Iain received his Class 1 driving license in Alberta. He found Canadian winter driving exciting … but in his later life, not so much! To most - Iain was a ‘grumpy old buggar’, but to those who knew him - he possessed a very dry sense of humour, and on occasion he was hilariously funny! Iain adored spending time with his family, who he loved very much. He will be forever missed.

“History is in the hands of the writer; what he or she wants to embellish, change, or ultimately miss out.

Completely changing the truth, and allowing over a period of time, to distort and twist memories

of people that are passed down by tales or songs. These stories become Myth and Legend.

This is one such story at a time when man was in great need of help.

History became legend legend became myth.”
