HOWSE
With great sadness we say goodbye to Kathryn “Kathy” Jenine Howse, our loving mother, sister, partner, and friend. Kathy passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at the age of 60 years.
Kathy was born in Calgary on January 20, 1962. She spent her childhood days in blissful freedom; watching birds and frogs at a wetland, riding bikes, and hanging out with friends. Embracing that freedom, Kathy was a life force who jumped in with both feet. She was outspoken, confident, and had a great sense of humour. Her love of the outdoors continued throughout her life, as she was an avid camper who travelled all over Alberta and B.C. exploring as many lakes and campsites as she could. The greatest pride and joy for Kathy was her daughters. She loved them with such a big love; she embraced motherhood and considered every moment with them as a precious gift. Another love for Kathy was animals. This passion took her to Africa in her youth, and she had a lifetime of pet companions who were part of her family. A house full of kids, dogs, and laughter makes a home. Kathy had many friends that she made while living in Beiseker, Airdrie, and Rimbey. She was a member of the Beiseker Bullets hockey team, where she played for years and coached for the last eight years. Her teammates became some of her closest friends, and would frequently gather with the team.
Kathy leaves behind her loving daughters Savannah and Hailey; her sisters Heather, Cindy, and Jennifer; and her partner Shawn, who joined her on her travels and heroically cared for her during the years of her illness. She also has several nieces and nephews, other family, and many friends who will miss her laugh and honest insights. Kathy was predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Jenny Howse.
A Gathering in Kathy’s Honour will take place this summer at the Red Lodge Provincial Park Campground, near Bowden, Alberta, to celebrate everything that was Kathy’s life and her love of the outdoors. Family and friends are welcome. She will be laid to rest in the Mountain View Cemetery, Calgary at a later date. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Kathy’s memory may be made directly to the Canadian Animal Task Force Society, Bay F, 3851 – 21 Street NE, Calgary, Alberta T2E 6T5 (www.cataskforce.org). Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
