JAFFRAY

Mrs. Elsie Christine Jaffray of Rimbey, Alberta passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Monday, June 7, 2021 at the age of 98 years.

Elsie was born on March 25, 1923 in Provost, Alberta to Ed and Caroline Johnson. She had three older sisters: Alma, Signe, and Luella. After following her sister, Luella Halvorson to Rimbey, Elsie went to work in a local café. It was here she met Jimmy Jaffray, and they were united in marriage in 1945. Together they farmed in the Lockhart District and raised a family of three sons: Ken, Larry, and Eddie. Elsie loved the farm they called ‘Lingerwood Farm’. She grew a large garden, had her own orchard, and was always preserving and freezing produce. Elsie also enjoyed baking, and there was always coffee and cookies for friends and neighbours when they stopped by for a visit. Being of Norwegian heritage, she made a lot of ‘lefse’ and other treats at Christmas time. After moving to Rimbey in 1990, Elsie would still head out to the farm to pick saskatoons and apples, of which she made juice and fruit leather. A smaller garden in her backyard still produced plenty, and she loved to share with neighbours. Elsie was a member of the Rimbey United Church, and welcomed opportunities to volunteer her time. After Jimmy passed away in 2011, she moved to the Parkland Manor and eventually into Rimbey Long Term Care. The family would like to extend a thank you to the manor and hospital staff for all the care and support Elsie received while she was a resident.

Elsie is survived by her two sons, Ken (Kathy) Jaffray of Bluffton; and Larry (Leslie) Jaffray of Rimbey; as well as her cherished grandchildren: Travis (Nicole), Jamie (Greg), Julie (Aaron), Darren (Joan), and Joanne (Bob); and her great grandchildren: Breanna, Chase, Kayla, Cassidy, Hanna, Ken, Kate, Landon, Marley, Troy, and Everly. She also has numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Jimmy in 2011; her son, Edward in 1971; and her three sisters.

A Private Family Funeral Service in Celebration of Elsie’s Life was held at the Rimbey United Church on Monday, June 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Marco Ste-Marie officiating. Interment followed in the Mount Auburn Cemetery, Rimbey.
