McLAUGHLIN

With such sorrow in our hearts, we had to say goodbye to our loving son and brother.  Dustin John McLaughlin passed away suddenly in Red Deer, Alberta on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the age of 36 years.    

Dustin was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan on July 4, 1989, where he resided with his mother and sister until he was two years old.  They then relocated to Drumheller, Alberta and his family grew with the addition of his dad, a brother, and another sister.  At the age of six years, Dustin gained another brother.  The family moved several times before finally settling in Rimbey, Alberta, where Dustin completed some of his schooling and then joined the workforce.

At a young age, Dustin did not like to be confined – he needed to be free.  You knew immediately… evident from all the times he escaped his crib, the backyard, or got out of the house.  Once he was outside, he was gone! He was either down the street or out in the backyard where he liked to play… he simply loved to be outside.  Once Dustin was older, he couldn’t wait to leave home and go to the city where he could be free to pursue whatever he felt was worth pursuing; whether it was work, hanging out with his friends, or catching the eye of a pretty girl.

Dustin found his calling in carpentry.  He really loved to help build homes, and his family was so proud of him when he pointed out all the homes he had helped build.  Dustin also enjoyed listening to music and he valued spending time with his friends.  He touched the hearts of all those he met.

Dustin is survived by his mother Patty McLaughlin and father Glenn Cormack; as well as his daughter Ameliah, son Axel, and son Ryler.  His is also survived by his sister Christine (née McLaughlin) Turner (Micah), and their family Asher, Ameliah, and Abigail; his brother Mitchell Cormack (Anna), and their family Shande and Anastasia; his sister Michelle (née Cormack) Bascom (Mike), and their family Phoenyx and Falcon; and his brother Jesse Cormack (Nicole Baxter).  Dustin was predeceased by his grandfather Martin McLaughlin and grandmother Gail McLaughlin. 

Dustin will be extremely missed… and no words can describe the pain in our hearts.

Are filled with tears for me

I wish so much you wouldn’t cry

The way you did today

While thinking of the many things

We didn’t get to say

I know how much you love me

As much as I love you

And each time you think of me

I know you’ll miss me too

But when tomorrow starts without me

Please try to understand

That an angel came and called my name

And took me by the hand

And said my place was ready

In heaven far above

And that I’d have to leave behind

All those I dearly loved

But when I walked through Heaven’s gate

I felt so much at home

When God looked down and smiled at me

From his great golden throne

He said this is eternity

And all I promised you

Today your life on earth is past

But here it starts anew

I promise no tomorrow

For today will always last

And since each day’s the same way

There’s no longing for the past

So when tomorrow starts without me

Don’t think we are far apart

For every time you think of me

I’m right here in your heart
