Gordon “Gord” Dennis Mounteney of Bluffton, Alberta, age 85 years, passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

Gord lived a life defined by hard work, adaptability, and commitment.  As a young man, he proudly served in the Navy, beginning a lifelong pattern of service.  Gord was also a dedicated Royal Canadian Legion member, and served as past president of the Ponoka Legion, Branch No. 66.  Over the years, he built a diverse and respectable career; working in the construction industry, retail, insurance sales, and ultimately finding a long-term professional home with United Farmers of Alberta (UFA), where he spent the final 25 years of his working life before retiring.

Gord enjoyed many interests, from golf and curling to cards and dominoes.  He spent countless happy hours with family and friends, and was fortunate to win medals at the Alberta Seniors Games alongside his wife, Brenda.  Gord also took great pride in his vegetable garden and loved that he and Brenda could enjoy the fruits of their labour throughout the year.

At heart, Gord was an introverted soul who found contentment in life’s quiet moments.  He loved nothing more than sitting in his chair or lounging in the sunshine with a favourite novel.  An avid reader, Gord served on the Rimbey Community Library Board for many years, valuing both reading literacy and community involvement.  He also enjoyed travelling with Brenda, taking part in many bus tours during their retirement and spending winter trips in Mexico, where they welcomed the warmth and sunshine.  Gord was a baseball fan as well, and one of his favourite experiences combined both a bus tour and a professional baseball game when he and Brenda went to Seattle to watch the Toronto Blue Jays vs the Seattle Mariners.

Gord will be lovingly remembered by his wife Brenda; his daughter Renée; his son Casey; and his cherished granddaughter, Hunter, who brought him great pride and joy.  He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Hazel (née Burnett) Mounteney; his brothers William Harold “Manny” and Arthur “Art”; and his sister Muriel.

A Private Celebration of Gord’s Life will be held at a later date.  If desired, memorial donations in his memory may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, Suite 300 – 55 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto, Ontario  M4V 2Y7 (www.cancer.ca); or to the Alberta Lung Association, Box 4500, Station South, Edmonton, Alberta  T6E 6K2 (www.ablung.ca).  Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
