SNAIR
Daniel ‘Dan’ J. Snair of Gull Lake, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Monday, October 12, 2020 at the age of 54 years.
Dan grew up in Springhill, Nova Scotia, and was the youngest of eight children. At the age of 19 years, he left Nova Scotia and travelled to Red Deer, Alberta to live with his brother, Paul. When he was 21 years old, Dan met the love of his life, Bonnie, and they were married in 1989. He spent the first 11 years in Alberta working at Michener Centre. Dan taught himself sign language so that he could work with the deaf in the group homes. As Michener Centre started to close many of their facilities, Dan decided it was time to try the oilfield industry. He spent the last 21 years of his oilfield career working with Trican Well Services. In 2001, Dan and Bonnie moved to Gull Lake and created a beautiful oasis to eventually retire at. His most favorite spot at home was sitting around the fire pit. Dan’s family was his world - he loved his sons, Josh and Jade, his grandson, Nicholas, and his wife, Bonnie immensely. He was the most kind and generous father, husband, friend, and son. Dan also possessed a tremendous sense of humor, and there wasn’t a day that went by without laughter. He loved to be by the water, either boating or challenging Jade and Bonnie in fish-catching competitions. As a creative woodworker, Dan took the greatest pleasure in making things for his family. He enjoyed puttering around in his garage; either woodworking, rebuilding his RC trucks, or bringing antique toys back to life. For the last 6 months, Dan fought a courageous battle against cancer. He will never be forgotten.
Dan will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Bonnie; his two sons, Josh of Sooke, B.C.; and Jade (Lisa) of Blackfalds; as well as his precious grandson, Nicholas. He will also be lovingly remembered by his mother, Bessie Snair of Antigonish, Nova Scotia; and his brother, Brian of Truro, Nova Scotia; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and close friends. Dan was predeceased by his father, Gordon; and his six siblings: Mary, Wayne, Paul, Mike, Frank, and Shane.
The family will hold an Informal Celebration of Dan’s Life in their backyard at Gull Lake in the summer of 2021. He was laid to rest in the Columbarium at the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey at a later date. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Dan’s Memory may be made directly to the Central Alberta Cancer Centre, c/o Alberta Cancer Foundation, 3942 - 50A Avenue, Bag 5030, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 4E7 (www.albertacancer.ca).
