Archie Trumbley of Rimbey, Alberta passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the age of 84 years.
Archie was a twin, born on May 3, 1941, on the family farm northwest of Demaine, Saskatchewan to Martha and Robert “Bob” Trumbley. He was small, but feisty, weighing under 3 lbs at birth. His twin brother, unfortunately, did not survive. Despite not having the benefit of an incubator, his mother wrapped him in layers of cheesecloth and cotton batting to keep him warm.
Archie was unable to involve himself in sports, as at the age of 12 years he had a serious bout of rheumatic fever. He channeled his energy into other activities that included cars. The most memorable would be his first car, a 1937 Chev that had previously been owned by his brother Marvin. Archie and friends customized the old Chevy by cutting the top off and turning it into a convertible. The idea was fun… until it rained!
At a young age, Archie left home and found employment at a couple of ranching companies. Later, he moved to Saskatoon and worked for Ram’s Construction and then moved to Calgary where he was again employed in the construction industry. Within a few years, Archie became one of three partners in Target Tunneling. Not long after he was the sole owner of Calgary Tunneling and Horizontal Drilling. Through his work, Archie had the opportunity to travel from coast to coast.
Archie spent much of his life living in, or near, Calgary; most recently moving to Rimbey about nine years ago. He loved to travel, spending many winter vacations in warmer climates, later enjoying his condo in Costa Rica until his health started to fail. During the seasons he spent in Canada, you could find Archie at his local Legion where he was a strong, supportive member, always trying to win another “meat draw”.
Archie is survived by his partner Elizabeth Bakx; his son Roger St. Denis; and his granddaughter Cassandra Annable. He is also survived by his brother Marvin; his brother Ken (Barb); his sister Darlene Murdoch; as well as his nieces Debbie (Doug), Rauncie, LeAnn (Curtis), Jennifer (Steven), and Jolene (Colin); and his nephews Blaine (Betty Ann), Allan (Annette), Laurie (Shirley), Blaine (Marie), and Blair (Jonna), and their families. Archie was predeceased by his parents Martha and Bob Trumbley; his wife Elaine; daughters Yvette, Yvonne, and Yolanda; twin brother John; brother Leroy; brother-in-law Mervin Murdoch; and his sister-in-law Norma Trumbley.
A family Graveside Service in Celebration of Archie’s Life will be held at the Waterside Cemetery, near Demaine, Saskatchewan on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
