VERHAEGHE

With great sadness we announce that Linda M. Verhaeghe of Condor, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the age of 71 years.

Linda was born in Innisfail and raised in Bowden, Alberta. Following high school, she attained her teaching degree at the University of Calgary. Linda was united in marriage to Gary Verhaeghe in 1970, which is also when she began her teaching career, a career that lasted for over 30 years. She taught school in Calgary for five years, and then in Airdrie for 25 years. Linda taught elementary grades, and especially enjoyed teaching music and resource classes. Linda and Gary adopted two children, a daughter, Alyssa, born in 1980; and a son, Christopher, born in 1982. In 2001 Linda retired from teaching due to health issues, and in 2003 they relocated to the Drayton Valley area, moving into their new home they had built. Linda was active in the Drayton Valley community, serving as a board member, as well as active in the church. Through the church, Linda and Gary conducted several marriage courses. In September of 2015 they moved again, settling in the Condor area to be closer to family. Family has always been very important to Linda. Typically she took on initiating family gatherings, and took great pleasure in filling the organizing role for family meals and get-togethers. She was the loving glue that bonded everyone together. Linda also enjoyed every minute spent cooking and baking with her granddaughter. For over 25 years she also organized and added to the family calendar that she made for everyone. In the last few years, Linda and Gary expanded their passion for traveling. They toured Ireland and Scotland, and enjoyed a two-week riverboat trip from Budapest to Amsterdam. They also had a passion for traveling to Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic. Linda’s passing has left a big hole in the lives of her family and friends, and she is surely missed. She is now in the hands of her Lord and Saviour … a true guardian angel.

Linda will be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband of 51 years, Gary; her son Christopher Verhaeghe of Naramata, B.C.; and her daughter Alyssa (Darren) Vos of Condor; as well as four cherished grandchildren: Ian Klammer, Tanner Thomson, Logan Thomson, and Zoey Vos. She will also be lovingly remembered by three brothers: Lonnie (Dannette) Brown of Bowden, Dwayne (Joanne) Brown also of Bowden, and Daryl (Kari) Brown of Olds; and one sister Trudy Asher of Calgary; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many treasured friends. Linda was predeceased by her parents, Chris and Marg Brown.

A Gathering of Family and Friends to Celebrate Linda’s Life was held at the Condor Community Centre, Condor on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Linda will be laid to rest with her parents in the Bowden Cemetery at a later date.
