The chronicler of the Goetz Family history has gone to greener pastures.  Alvin Michael Goetz was born on January 21, 1934, and left this world on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the age of 91 years.

Alvin was the eighth of twelve children born to Zeno and Loretta Goetz of Bluffton, Alberta.  He attended the Bluffton School to Grade 9.  Trapping fur-bearing animals was his first attempt at making his million dollars!  In 1953, Alvin attended the Vermilion School of Agriculture, completing a two-year course.  He also worked a brief stint in the oil patch.  In 1958, Alvin applied for a Nuffield Scholarship and travelled to Great Britain to learn about special farm crops, as well as to have tea with the Queen!  Alvin and his brother, Norman, were partners in their Frosty Acres Farm in Bluffton, where Alvin became an avid breeder of Welsh Black cattle.

Over the years, Alvin was involved with the Junior Farmers of Alberta and the local 4-H clubs.  He was also energetically engaged in helping to get the Goldeye Centre, west of Rocky Mountain House, up and running.  Alvin was an active life member of the Rimbey Lions Club, volunteering in numerous club positions and community activities for over 50 years.  Alvin enjoyed curling, floor curling, and bowling.  He possessed a curious mind that was fueled by being an avid reader, writer, and gardener.  Alvin was always willing to share his knowledge with others.

Alvin is survived by his special friend Janet Henry; his sisters Ruth Morrison and Anita Myler; his brother Norman Goetz; and his sister-in-law Clare Goetz.  There are also many, many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of good friends who will mourn his loss.  Alvin was predeceased by his parents Zeno and Loretta Goetz; along with five brothers and three sisters.

A Memorial Service in Celebration of Alvin’s life will be held at the Bluffton Community Hall, Bluffton on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with the Reverend David Holmes officiating.  If  desired, memorial donations in his memory may be made directly to STARS Air Ambulance, Box 570, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Calgary, Alberta  T2E 8M7 (www.stars.ca).  Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
