GUARD

With heavy hearts we announce that Haldon Earl Guard of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the age of 81 years.

When Earl was quite young, he worked as a heavy-duty mechanic for the family John Deere dealership.  He decided that he would rather be farming, so he left the dealership to pursue farming.  He initially started farming in the Huxley, Alberta area.  After a few years, he moved to Bluffton where he operated a large dairy farm.  Earl farmed in Bluffton for many years, relocating to Big Valley, Alberta where he had an Angora goat farm.  It was at this time that he married his second wife Lorraine.  After Earl had enough of farming, he settled in Drumheller and went back to John Deere as a salesman, later moving to Trochu while continuing his sales career.  He worked there until his retirement.  Upon retiring, Earl moved to Edson where boredom overtook him and he returned to work with a pipeline company.  When he retired for the second time, Earl returned to Rimbey where he resided until his passing.

Anyone who knew Earl, also knew that he was a jack-of-all-trades.  He was always willing to help others, never asking for anything in return.  Earl was a well-respected member of the community.  He enjoyed just being with friends and family and was never too busy to sit down and have a coffee and a conversation.

Earl is survived by his wife Lorraine; his daughters Faye (Johnny), Wanita (Mike), and Tammy (Duncan); his son Haldon (Nicole); and his stepdaughters Christy (Rick) and Sherry (Kevin).  He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Jeff, Rashel, Brad, Jason, Darrell, Tina, Delsin, Westin, Keegan, Jason, and TJ; his great-grandchildren MaeLee, Raylon, Mira, Evana, and Everett; his three brothers Bruce (Sandra), Jim (Mary-Glenn), and Gordon (Anne) all of Trochu; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

With respect for Earl’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held.  If desired, memorial donations in his memory may be made directly to STARS Air Ambulance, Box 570, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Calgary, Alberta  T2E 8M7 (www.stars.ca). Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
