Joeann McLaughlin of Rimbey, Alberta, formerly of Westbank, B.C., passed away peacefully, with family by her side, at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Area Two on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the age of 89 years.
Joeann was born in Lacombe, Alberta on June 8, 1936. Following her education, she was employed as a secretary for a real estate office and as a bookkeeper for the family business in her younger years. Following her retirement, Joeann and her husband, Al, had the pleasure of spending most of their time travelling. Her sister and brother–in–law, Helen and Carl, accompanied them on many of their amazing trips and adventures. In their later years, Joeann and Al also had the opportunity to experience Palm Springs and Kauai; as well as visits to Los Angeles where they enjoyed time spent with their daughter and her husband. While there, they loved being able to help with small construction projects to improve the properties. Joeann and Al also liked to devote quality time together hiking while surrounded by nature. Joeann possessed a passion for reading and was always delighted to embark on many sewing projects.

“Mom will be more than a memory
to all who knew and loved her.
She is a living presence in our hearts that we can’t see,
but she will remain with us to be remembered forever
as we go forward in our lives.”
Joeann will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children: two sons Mitchell of Rimbey; and Brian of Warburg, Alberta; and her daughter Michelle McLaughlin (Ron) of Los Angeles, California. She will also be lovingly remembered by her sister Helen Coers of Rimbey; her sister–in–law Bertha Willson of Calgary; as well as special nieces and nephews Michawn (Martie), Shannon (Rick), and John (Cathy); and great–nieces– and nephews Kent (Tracy), Kesler (Korah), Eve, and Anna.
Joeann will also be greatly missed by Kent and Tracy’s children, who she considered her “honorary grandchildren,” Emily, Ethan, Aevyn, and Tyler; in addition to numerous other nieces and nephews, and several close friends. She was predeceased by her husband Al in 2021; two brothers Ward and Harley; her brother–in–law Carl; and great–nephew Shane.
With respect for Joeann’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. If desired, memorial donations in her memory may be made directly to the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, c/o the Rimbey Hospital Legacy Committee, Box 440, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0 (www.rimbeyhospitallegacycommittee.com).
