Joe Winowich of Rimbey, Alberta passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Long Term Care, on the evening of Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

Born in rural Saskatchewan, Joe lived a long life of 85 ½ years.  He was a talented drywall finisher for most of his life, continuing to work full time until the age of 79 years, when his health began to fail and he was later diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.  Before the disease officially took hold of him, Joe suffered as all have before him, with the personal loss of his abilities.

Joe spent the last two years of his life residing at Rimbey Long Term Care, and with the love and support of the amazing staff there, he began to have a sense of peace within himself again.  They kept everything calm and loving for him, as well as for many others.  If Joe still had the ability to have a conversation, he would have enjoyed each of you immensely as his friends!  Thank you very much to all the staff for being the kind and caring people that you are!

Joe has now joined his friends and family that have passed before him, with the peacefulness that was compassionately provided to him.  We believe he is finally able to see, smell, and touch all things again – Joe is able to enjoy and become excited with these old – “new” sensations!

“Rest in peace, Dad, and thank you Lord God for taking our dad home!  Amen.”

Joe is survived by his family:  daughter Jodine of Saskatchewan; daughter Debbie (Brian) of Alberta; son Michael of Newfoundland; and two stepsons Michael and Matthew, both of Ontario.  He is also survived by six grandchildren Sam, Emily, Dylan, Chantel (Phil), Ryan (Brittney), and Nicole (Mitchell); as well as four great-grandchildren Liam, Jacob, Emma, and Ian… in addition to a tiny new bundle of joy that is soon to arrive!  Joe was predeceased by his first wife Madelynne; his second wife Judy; and his stepson Mark.

A Private Family Gathering in Joe’s Honour will be held in the summer of 2026.  If desired, memorial donations in his memory may be made directly to Long Term Care at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, c/o the Rimbey Hospital Legacy Committee, Box 440, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0 (www.rimbeyhospitallegacycommittee.com).  Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
