With deep sadness we announce the passing of Robert “Rob” Clifford Budd of Bluffton, Alberta. Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the age of 68 years.
Rob was born in Camrose, Alberta on April 4, 1957. Following his schooling, he worked in the oilfield industry on oil rigs before finding employment with the Department of Transportation in Lacombe. Rob transitioned into working for Lacombe Fertilizer, a job he took pleasure in for the next 18 years. He then began a career as a chemical distribution manager for United Agri Products, and enjoyed the task of getting chemical to the agricultural businesses throughout Alberta. However, Rob’s greatest passion for the last 29 years was as a school bus driver. He thoroughly appreciated the challenges and adored the kids.
Upon retirement, Rob found a new passion – race cars! He loved his get-togethers with his support group, and enjoyed any day spent at the races as a spectator at Central Alberta Raceways. The girls spoiled him there! Rob’s greatest love of all was for his family. He had fun rekindling with all of his cousins from the Budd side of his family this past summer. He really delighted in seeing everyone and was thankful for that time together. Most of all, Rob cherished any time spent with his three children. He loved them dearly and was immensely proud of them all. He was always so happy to see his grandkids – treasuring their hugs and hearing the word, ‘grandpa’.
Rob built their farm, house, fencing… and truly was a handyman of all the trades. He loved reading and figuring out plans for building things and other pending projects around the yard. There was always a project on the go. Rob also took satisfaction in his puzzles; and for his wife, he especially enjoyed the fun of making little house structures and enacting his designs for intricate fairy gardens. Actually, there were plans for a lot of things… and there was never a moment for boredom! Rob took pleasure in teasing people, he always had a joke to tell, and he possessed an enthusiastic sense of humour. He always took time to enjoy camping, reading, and his faithful, furry partner, Tigger, who misses him dearly.
Rob leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Sheila; his loving children: two daughters Angela Budd and Bobby–jo (Brant) Stickel; and his son Christopher (Kelly) Budd; as well as ten grandchildren and one great-grandson. He also leaves behind his sister Rita (John) Jackson of Gwynne, Alberta; his brother Stephen (Kelly) Budd of Ponoka; his sister-in-law Peggy Mueller of Langley, B.C.; in addition to many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends. Rob was predeceased by his father Clifford; his mother Patricia; two brothers-in-law Norman Mueller and Larry Nachtegaele; and his parents-in-law Victor and Charlesena Nachtegaele.
With respect for Rob’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. If desired, memorial donations in his memory may be made directly to the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, c/o the Rimbey Hospital Legacy Committee, Box 440, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0 (www.rimbeyhospitallegacycommittee.com). Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
