In the early morning hours of Sunday, January 11, 2026, with a warm chinook wind blowing, Kelly Edward Bundt of Bluffton, Alberta quietly and comfortably slipped from the world at the age of 65 years, surrounded by those who loved him.  He was content and cared for in his own bed at home.

Born the third child of Carl and Dolores Bundt, Kelly’s life began on March 22, 1960, in Carroll, Iowa in the United States.  Shortly before his first birthday, the family moved north and settled near Bottrel, Alberta.  Kelly attended the Westbrook School in his early years, then went on to high school in Cochrane.  In these years, Kelly – “The Reverend”, created so many friendships and bonds that lasted his entire lifetime.  Following high school, Kelly went to work for Spray Lake Sawmills.

In the early ‘80s Kelly met Joan, and before long they moved back to the farm at Bottrel, where they raised their four sons.  Once Kelly’s boys were raised, he moved north to Bluffton and went to work for Castle Building Supplies in Sylvan Lake, a company and crew he appreciated working with.  Not long after moving to Bluffton, Kelly and Kim were married and raised two more sons and a daughter, and they always had an open door for the dozens of neighbourhood kids over the past decade.

“The Reverend” loved get-togethers.  He also possessed the unique gift of being a great storyteller.  Kelly could captivate his audience, animating any story within the first few sentences.  His laugh echoed in any room, and it would surely bring a smile to your face!  Kelly enjoyed any time spent with family.  He also took pleasure in the outdoors, hunting, and fishing.  Kelly had a soft place in his heart for the forgotten and unloved… and would offer anything to help.  Kelly retained an unwavering connection to the past and truly loved his people.  He was a humble man with a kind heart and a gentle spirit.

“We will miss that mischievous twinkle in his eyes.”

Kelly is survived by his loving family:  his partner Kim; his sons Rodney, Trevor, Cory, Brett, and Logan; and a grandson Quinten.  His is also survived by his sister Melody (Joe); his brother Justin (Michelle); his sister-in-law Barb; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, Carl in 1991 and Dolores in 2009; his daughter Alyssa in 2025; and a brother Sam in 2014.

A family-hosted Informal Gathering in Celebration of Kelly’s Life will be held at the Dog Pound Stampede Grounds in Bottrel, Alberta on Saturday, May 23, 2026.  Camping is available for those that wish.  Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
