With sadness we announce the passing of George Ian Jenner of Rimbey, Alberta on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the age of 74 years.  He was an amazing husband, dad, grandpa, and papa who was affectionately known as “Papa Squarehead.”

Born in Penticton, B.C., George was a heavy-duty mechanic in the automotive industry for most of his life.  Those who knew of him, thought him to be a no-nonsense, straight to the point, and blunt man that could come off as slightly abrasive.  Haha!  To those who knew George, were close to him, or who loved or were loved by him, would describe him as a pillar of strength who had a profound love and unending compassion for his family.  He possessed a soft heart and a deep fondness for animals as well, especially dogs.  He also showed an interest and curiosity in anything antique, or anything with history and a story to tell.

George made it seem like there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do!  Even with one good arm for most of his adult life, he built and restored houses, built award–winning hot rod cars, and was a mechanic, carpenter, plumber, electrician, farmer, roofer… and the list could go on and on.  He could literally fix anything!  George even mastered “The Floss” – a Fortnite dance he quickly learned when challenged by the grandkids.

“He will be greatly missed and will live on in our hearts and in our minds every day… always.”

George is survived by his wife Deanna; his three children Darren (Treena), Carrie (Trent), and Jackie (Reeve); as well as his cherished grandchildren Dani, Emery, Keelee, Trey, Flynn, and Kyra.  He is also survived by his brother Dale (Ruth); in addition to many nieces and nephews, other family members, and several close friends.  George was predeceased by his parents, John and Sadie; and his siblings Jim, Daryl, and Janet.

A private informal gathering to Celebrate George’s Life will be held at a later date.  If desired, memorial donations in his memory may be made directly to the Central Alberta Humane Society, 4505 – 77 Street, Red Deer, Alberta  T4P 2J1 (www.cahumane.com).  Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.

Just saw this now. So sad to see this. I remember meeting George around 23 years ago working at NAPA. He was very to the point and had a difference of opinion with a coworker and did not come into the store for a month or so. He eventually came in and diverted over to my counter... from that day on I was the one he dealt with there. When we started our own store and shop we continued to see him there. We too had some interesting times but it became an unspoken truth that we had a understanding of mutual respect. That respect included seeing how much he cared for others. He would ask about our family, animal…
