With sadness we announce that Gladys DuGray of Rimbey, Alberta, formerly of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at the age of 90 years.
Gladys was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in October, 1930. She was employed with the Federal Government, providing 21 years of service to the Department of National Defense and then Agriculture Canada. Gladys loved keeping busy, and was an organizer for singles club activities for a number of years. She also took great pleasure in traveling, enjoying the tour guide role for Singles Fling Vacations for ten years, as well as embarking on many other travel excursions around the globe. Gladys also loved to keep active, and for over twenty years she led the Happy Wanderers Hiking Group. You could often find her hiking in the mountains, or trekking down the street with her walking sticks in hand! She kept a steady pace, taking pleasure in the outdoors and the exercise that hiking provided. Gladys was a good friend to many, often helping out whenever she could to brighten someone’s day. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Gladys will be lovingly remembered by her son, Garnet (Margaret) DuGray of Rimbey; two special grandchildren, Bryson and Christine Balding; and two very special great grandchildren, Liam and Tyson Balding. She will also be lovingly remembered by her two brothers, James (Celine) Oleksuk of Starbuck, Manitoba; and Gordon (Gaby) Oleksuk of Brandon, Manitoba; one sister, Phyllis Hawkins of Everett, Washington; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many close friends. Gladys was predeceased by her parents, Pauline and Michael; the father of her children, Albert; her son, Dale Albert; and a brother, Tom Oleksuk.
At the time, no formal funeral service was held. An Informal Celebration of Gladys’ Life took place at a later date.
