OBERHAMMER

Safe in the arms of Jesus, JoAnn Oberhammer of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully at home, with her loving husband by her side, on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the age of 76 years.

JoAnn was born in Vancouver, B.C. on February 19, 1945, and moved with her family to Alberta as a young child. She was united in marriage to her true love and best friend, Alvin in October, 1961, and together they raised a family of four children. They resided in many locations in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and B.C. over the years, settling in Red Deer upon their retirement. JoAnn was a remarkable cook in the kitchen, and a genius in crafting amazing meals and baked goods. She had an impressive collection of over 300 cookbooks, and would try her hand at making anything contained within the pages! JoAnn loved to cook and share her culinary knowledge and delicious, tasty talents with her family, friends, and neighbours. She enjoyed pickling and making relish, her homemade bread and buns were amazing, Christmastime always delighted family with whipped shortbread and other extraordinary treats, and a huge pot of cabbage rolls and homemade perogies were a special indulgence! JoAnn also had a talent with needlework; whether it was knitting, crocheting, petit point, or cross-stitch. She loved to craft sweaters, doilies, dolls, and other keepsakes for family and friends to treasure. She also enjoyed her flowers and plants, possessing a “green thumb” that could get anything to grow with a little bit of love and water, resulting in bountiful gardens and stunning flowers. Over the years, JoAnn and Alvin also took pleasure in camping, playing cards, fishing, golfing and traveling. They visited many places across the United States and Canada, where they especially enjoyed their trip to Alaska, and JoAnn fell in love with the beauty of Newfoundland.

JoAnn will be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband of almost 60 years, Alvin; her furry friend and companion, Missy; and her two sons, Laverne (Michelle) of Rimbey and their children: Mandy, and Allie (Jeff) and their sons, Grayson and Cedar; and Keith (Jane) of Calgary and their children: Calvin (Joane), and Cedrick (Glicee) and their son, Tyson. She will also be remembered by additional family members, Ralph (Sherry) of Lethbridge and their children: Chad (Sarah) and their family, Rowynn, Carter, and Brixton; and Travis (Kinga) and their family, Emma, Jaxon, and Kamryn; in addition to Natasha and her family; Kaitlin (Dean) and their sons, Grayson and Benjamin; and Rob (Chelsea) and their daughter, Jayla; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends. JoAnn was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Jessie Fischer; her daughter, Faith in 2015; and her son, Harold in 2019.

A Funeral Service in Celebration of JoAnn’s Life was held at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 18 Selkirk Boulevard, Red Deer on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Don Hennig and Pastor Brian Amison officiating.
