Annelise Wettstein (née Temperli) of Rimbey, Alberta was born on April 7, 1946, in Uster, Switzerland.  With sadness we announce that she passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the age of 79 years.

Annelise’s early years were full of mischief; closely watched by her older brother and surrounded by cousins who adored her.  Although she was raised on a farm just outside of Zurich, she was determined not to become a farmer herself.

Annelise pursued training as a hairdresser and attended a school for young women, where she learned a variety of homemaking skills.  In her late teens, she met Hans Wettstein – who ultimately foiled her plans to escape farm life – and she married him at the age of 20 years.  Together, they welcomed three children:  Monika, Irene, and Andreas.  In 1977, the family immigrated to Canada to further pursue a life in agriculture.

Annelise was deeply involved in her community and spent many years volunteering with organizations such as the Chinook Ladies Club, the Beatty Heritage House Society, and the German-Canadian Club of Red Deer; as well as singing in both the United Church Choir and the Rimbey Community Chorus.  Music was a lifelong passion for her.  Annelise loved singing and playing both guitar and piano, often filling her home with music late into the night, surrounded by family and friends.  She was always active and engaged in life.  In her later years, Annelise enjoyed gardening, swimming, practicing yoga, playing music, and spending time with loved ones – often over a glass of wine… or two.

Annelise will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Monika (Rob) Rondeel and Irene (Roland) Grutterink; as well as her five treasured grandchildren Jennifer Rondeel, Justin (Jessica) Rondeel, Aya (Nicolas) Karpluk, Rico Grutterink, and Selena Grutterink; and three cherished great-grandchildren Morrison, Johannes, and Petra.  She will also be lovingly remembered by numerous relatives in Switzerland; in addition to many friends in Rimbey, and at the Country Roads RV Village in Yuma, Arizona.  Annelise was predeceased by her parents Erna and Willi Temperli; her husband Hans; her son Andreas; and her brother Freddi.

A Memorial Service in Celebration of Annelise’s Life will be held at the Rimbey United Church, Rimbey on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with the Reverend Ray Goodship officiating.  She will be laid to rest alongside family in the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey.  If desired, memorial donations in Annelise’s memory may be made directly to the Rimbey United Church, Box 7, Rimbey, Alberta  T0C 2J0 (www.rimbeyunitedchurch.org); or to the charity of one’s choice.  Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.

Services today for another sweet Chinook sister. Girls our club goes back many years into the mid sixties. Your Mother was ome of the youngest of the girls and being suh a busy lady wasn't always able to come to our meetings. I especially remember that your folks always enjoyed the Father's Day parties and we were always happy when they came. One blessing from all this is that she did not have to endure endless pain, and is now in paradice. Blessings to you her lovely daughters and your families. Love Mary Ann (Rompain) Kiddle Raymond Alberta.

In rememberance of Annalise Wettstein
