CHARLTON
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John E.H. Charlton of Breton, Alberta. John passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family, at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the age of 93 years.
John was born in Elnora, Alberta on December 28, 1931, the first-born son of Arthur H. and Muriel I. (née Macturk) Charlton, originally of Pine Lake, Alberta. John always wanted to ranch, and in 1966 he leased his parent’s family farm in Red Deer to start his cattle herd. The ranch dream was finally realized when the Four Seasons Ranch was relocated to Breton, Alberta in 1978, where John was able to double his land and herd size. John’s passion for raising high-quality cattle in a low stress environment was widely known and respected in the industry. John was also well-known for his passion for home-cooked meals, and to some he was referred to as the local ice cream sheriff!
John will be lovingly remembered by his sons David (Joyce-Lynn) Charlton of Prince Rupert, B.C., and Brad (Nicole) Charlton of Breton, Alberta; his daughter Merina (Russell) Cochrane of Kamloops, B.C.; and his daughter-in-law Noreen Mills-Charlton of Peachland, B.C. He will also be lovingly remembered by nine grandchildren Kody, Todd, Nadina, Kevin, Ian, Jessica, Sabrina, Samuel, and Renée; and nine great-grandchildren Jordan, Tristan, John, Claire, Ryan, Matteo, Gianna, Lucan, and Nakita. John was predeceased by his loving wife Lyn in 2005; his son Randy in 2002; his sisters Audrey, Beth, and Joyce; and his brother Bruce.
The Family would like to thank all the kind and compassionate caregivers in Rimbey that made John’s last few years so comfortable.
An Informal Gathering of family and friends in Celebration of John’s Life will be held at the Breton Community Centre, 4715 – 50 Avenue, Breton on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest alongside his wife Lyn in the Breton Cemetery, Breton at a later date.
